BSCkids: Jake Short
BSCkids: So when did you first start acting?
Jake Short: I decided when I was younger that I wanted to. I am from Indiana and when I lived there I was in acting classes and loved it. I moved to California when I was 9 ½ and I have been here for about 4 ½ years and I really love it.
How do your parents feel about your career choice?
Like I said I am from a small town and my parents never dreamed that this would happen. It started though with my brother wanting to be an actor so we both started doing it but he decided he didn’t want to any more and I decided that I loved it. My parents were kind of stunned by it and they still live in Indiana, I actually move out to California and moved in with my grandmother because she is retired and offered to let me.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Well right know I am on A.N.T. Farm on Disney and that is definitely one of my favorites so far. Its really fun to shoot and the working environment is one of the best. I think we are on episode 34 or 24 right now and I just really love it and so much fun.
You worked on Dexter with Michael C Hall; did you learn anything from working with him?
Oh definitely, yes, I learned actually a lot of stuff from him. He is really great. Michael is a method actor and is so good. It’s really cool how he can just become Dexter so fast. He can become that character and walk around set like that. It can be kind of scary because one minute he is Michael then he just becomes Dexter. Its like he says hi to you and he’s Dexter and its actually kind of creepy. But in that he really shows his talent.
You are currently on the show A.N.T Farm with China McClain. What has been your favorite episode to shoot and why?
I actually shot an episode called “ClairvoyANT” that hasn’t aired yet and I got to mess around with dinosaurs and stuff and it was a lot of fun. There is another episode where I get sprayed with water and hit in the face with a pie and that once was pretty fun too.
You character has a crush on Chyna, are his feelings ever going to be reciprocated or do you think he will move on?
I don’t know actually. I think they have good tension going on at the moment and will probably keep that going for a while. I just don’t know yet. I think they have a lot of good storylines from it and it is a lot of fun to watch. Like maybe one day Chyna will have feelings for Fletcher but he wont for her and then he will again and she won’t. I just think there are a lot of good storylines and I don’t know what they will do with it yet.
Do you have any special skills like your character Fletcher?
You know I do, I believe I do. I actually do tumbling, which is like gymnastics and tricks and stuff like that. I have a lot of fun with it and I am actually going to do some later today. It is definitely one of my hobbies and I am good at it. I just have a lot of fun with it.
Do you watch any of the other Disney shows, like wizards of Waverly place?
I do, I do watch Disney actually. I watch a lot of the shows on there because I can also take notes while I watch. Like “oh she did that there” or “he did that there” and it helps me become better. So yeah I watch a lot of the shows on there because they kind of contribute to the other shows on the channel.
Are there any chances you’ll be working with Selena Gomez in the future? Would you want to?
I don’t know at the moment actually. I mean it would be pretty cool if I could. I think it would be pretty awesome if I could though.
Do you have any plans for movies in the future?
Well we are finishing up the season right now and I am getting back in to auditioning for now. I want to but I have to do some auditioning.
Do you have any advice for younger kids who want to get into acting?
Definitely! I think that even if your parents don’t think it’s the right choice for you or if you cant get out to California right away that you can still try and follow you dreams. In this case, you can watch TV even to help and jot down notes on what other actors do to help you get better. Just don’t stop believing that you can make it and always believe in yourself.
