It’s Time For A New Disney Musical Journey With “Journey”

When you think of Disney storytelling, there are likely a few things that immediately come to mind.

Heart.

Music.

Magic.

While not every story needs a full Broadway-style musical number, there is little question that music has long helped elevate Disney’s stories, creating moments of wonder, excitement, and emotional connection that stay with audiences long after the credits roll.

Recently, Disney has continued expanding its animated lineup with a diverse range of stories and characters that resonate with viewers of all ages. From the enchanting return of the one and only princess-in-training in Sofia the First, to the fast-paced action of Dragon Striker and the mystery surrounding the upcoming The Doomies, animation fans have been treated to an impressive variety of storytelling styles, themes, and worlds.

But there is even more Disney magic on the horizon.

Disney Kids & Family and Higher Ground have officially entered production on Journey, an all-new animated musical fantasy adventure that is already shaping up to be one of Disney’s most intriguing upcoming projects.

When the energy shield protecting her city begins to fail, Journey answers a mysterious call that leads her beyond its walls — and into the forbidden lands beyond. In this new world, she uncovers the truth about her father’s disappearance and discovers a powerful magic within herself that may hold the key to saving her people.

Even from this brief synopsis, the foundation for something special is already beginning to emerge. Blending fantasy, adventure, mystery, and self-discovery, Journey appears to embrace many of the same storytelling elements that have helped Disney’s most beloved animated adventures connect with audiences for generations.

Based on the information released so far, the series appears poised to place a strong emphasis on courage, resilience, and discovering your place in the world. These themes have long served as the backbone of Disney storytelling, helping audiences connect with characters and their journeys long after their adventures come to an end.

At the center of it all is a young heroine embarking on a life-changing quest filled with mystery, magic, and self-discovery. It is the kind of coming-of-age journey that has helped define some of Disney’s most enduring stories, while also creating opportunities for a new generation of viewers to see themselves reflected on screen.

The series is created by Matt Munn, known for his work on Ice Age: Collision Course and Spies in Disguise, who will also serve as executive producer. Joining him is Steve Loter, whose credits include Kim Possible and Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, alongside Higher Ground’s Jessie Dicovitsky.

The partnership itself also appears to be a natural fit. Higher Ground has previously helped bring beloved family-focused franchises such as Waffles + Mochi and Ada Twist, Scientist to audiences, projects that similarly emphasized growth, curiosity, and discovery through meaningful storytelling.

As the project has only recently entered production, it will likely be some time before additional details are revealed. However, with an accomplished creative team, a compelling fantasy premise, and themes centered around courage, hope, and self-discovery, Journey is already giving audiences plenty of reasons to be excited.

Until then, we will be eagerly waiting to see where this new adventure takes us.
