There are television shows children love to watch, characters they love to play with and songs they will happily sing over and over again.
Then there are the special few that somehow become part of growing up.
For nearly 15 years, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” has helped preschoolers navigate everything from big emotions to first experiences through familiar songs, heartfelt stories and lessons designed to make some of childhood’s more complicated moments a little easier to understand.
And it looks like there are plenty more beautiful days ahead in this neighborhood.
9 Story Brands and Fred Rogers Productions have renewed their longstanding global licensing and merchandising partnership for “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood,” extending 9 Story Brands’ role as the property’s exclusive worldwide licensing and merchandising agent for another seven years.
While licensing agreements aren’t usually the kind of news that gets little ones running toward the television, the numbers behind this one tell a much larger story about just how enduring Daniel Tiger has become.
Now in its eighth season, “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” remains one of PBS KIDS’ most-watched shows. Over more than a decade, 9 Story Brands has built a consumer products program around the series spanning more than 60 licensees, with over 75 new SKUs expected to arrive by the end of 2026.
Those products now stretch across apparel, home, crafts and activities, health and beauty, location-based entertainment and more. JAKKS Pacific continues its longstanding relationship with the property through toys, while Simon & Schuster’s publishing program has already released more than 190 “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” titles.
That’s a lot of trips around the Neighborhood of Make-Believe.
But the continued success of Daniel Tiger has always been about something considerably more meaningful than how many products can feature his familiar red sweater.
Inspired by the legacy of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood,” the series has spent nearly 15 years meeting preschoolers at their level as they encounter milestone experiences and learn how to understand the world around them. Empathy, emotional intelligence and everyday problem-solving aren’t simply messages added onto Daniel’s adventures; they are fundamental to why those adventures exist.
Sometimes that means working through a difficult feeling. Other times it means approaching a new experience that might feel enormous when you’re little. Through songs and stories, Daniel and his friends give children something they can carry away from the screen and use when they encounter similar situations themselves.
And parents have had plenty of opportunities to discover just how memorable some of those songs can become.
That same philosophy carries over into the larger “Daniel Tiger” brand. Fred Rogers Productions and 9 Story Brands have focused their consumer products program on creating additional ways for families to interact with Daniel while remaining connected to the educational mission and heart of the series.
Extending that relationship for another seven years means there is considerably more room for the Neighborhood to grow through new products, categories, retail channels and territories around the world.
“Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” is produced by Fred Rogers Productions and 9 Story Media Group and animated by Brown Bag Films, with 9 Story managing worldwide licensing and distribution rights.
Nearly 15 years is an impressive run for any children’s series, but there is something particularly fitting about Daniel Tiger continuing to endure.
Fred Rogers built his work around speaking to children with kindness, respect and an understanding that their feelings mattered. “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” has carried pieces of that philosophy forward for another generation, giving today’s preschoolers their own familiar neighbor to help make sense of growing up.
The children who first met Daniel are getting older now.
New preschoolers are taking their places.
And Daniel?
He’s still putting on that red sweater, inviting another generation into the Neighborhood and reminding them that there is always something new to learn.
After all these years, it is still a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
