Sora has traveled to a lot of worlds over the years. He has fought alongside everyone from Donald Duck and Goofy to some of Disney’s most recognizable heroes, ventured through countless familiar locations and faced more Heartless than anyone should reasonably have to count.
So, really, we probably should have known that the Keyblade would eventually find its way into “Fortnite.”
The worlds of “Kingdom Hearts” and “Fortnite” have officially collided, bringing Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas into the massively popular game with new outfits available now through the Fortnite Shop. Each character also arrives with their own Back Bling, Pickaxe and LEGO Fortnite style, giving fans a few different ways to bring their favorite Keyblade wielders into the game.
Naturally, simply dressing like Sora isn’t quite enough when you could actually wield a Keyblade.
On Saturday, September 19, “Fortnite” will host special “Kingdom Hearts” Power Hours from 2 to 4 p.m. ET and again from 9 to 11 p.m. ET. During the event windows, every player will begin with the Kingdom Key alongside a Sea Salt Ice Cream—because apparently even dropping into a “Fortnite” match doesn’t mean we have to leave one of the series’ most recognizable treats behind.
The crossover is also introducing two new “Kingdom Hearts” Overrides that can change how matches play out. Recovery Override causes players eliminated with any weapon to drop healing orbs that can benefit squads across the match, while Level Up Override spawns a Mythic Kingdom Key at the current location of every member of a squad.
For a series practically built around traveling between wildly different worlds, “Kingdom Hearts” feels particularly at home inside the ever-expanding crossover universe of “Fortnite.” There is something wonderfully appropriate about Sora simply opening yet another door and discovering an entirely new group of characters waiting on the other side.
This time, however, Donald and Goofy may have been left behind.
Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas are available now in the Fortnite Shop, with the special “Kingdom Hearts” Power Hours taking place Saturday, September 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. ET and 9 to 11 p.m. ET.
The door has been opened.
