Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
For one night in New York City, you might want to add competitive gaming to that list.
Paramount Games is bringing “Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game” to OS NYC on Friday, October 9, for a special takeover packed with gameplay, themed food and drinks, giveaways, exclusive merchandise and, naturally, plenty of bending.
Running from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m., the free event will transform OS NYC into a celebration of the larger “Avatar Legends” universe, giving fans an opportunity to step away from simply watching their favorite benders battle and find out how well they can handle a fight themselves.
And there is quite a bit more than honor on the line.
At the center of the evening will be a free-entry, double-elimination “Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game” tournament hosted by @YOSENSII. Competitors will battle for their share of a $1,750 prize pool, giving experienced players a very good reason to start practicing before October 9.
Those who would rather leave the high-stakes fighting to someone else won’t be left sitting on the sidelines. Open gameplay will be available throughout the event, allowing attendees to experience the fast-paced 1v1 fighter without entering the tournament.
Of course, you can’t exactly invite fans into the Four Nations and forget about everything surrounding the fighting.
A Four Nations-inspired food cart will be serving up themed offerings, while custom “Avatar Legends” cocktails and mocktails will join the celebration. Fans can also stop by Photo-Appa for a picture, pick up exclusive merchandise through giveaways and enjoy a DJ alongside additional surprises planned throughout the night.
Yip yip, indeed.
The timing also makes October 9 a particularly enormous day for the “Avatar” universe in New York. Earlier that day, “Avatar: Seven Havens” will take over the Main Stage at New York Comic Con on the same day the new animated series premieres, bringing together the creators and cast behind Pavi’s era of the Avatar cycle.
Then the celebration moves from learning about the future of “Avatar” to battling across its history.
“Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game” brings characters from across the franchise together inside a 1v1 fighter, making an event built around the larger “Avatar Legends” identity particularly fitting. Whether fans arrive ready to compete for the tournament prize or simply want to play, eat, take a picture with Appa and spend an evening surrounded by other fans, Paramount Games is turning the release into something that extends well beyond the screen.
And really, if you’re going to test your bending skills, doing it after grabbing something from a Four Nations Food Cart feels like the appropriate way to prepare.
The “Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game” OS NYC Takeover takes place Friday, October 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at OS NYC, located at 50 Bowery in New York City. Admission is free and the event is open to guests ages 18 and older.
Space is first come, first served and subject to venue capacity, meaning an RSVP does not guarantee admission. Fans hoping to attend will want to arrive early.
“Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game” is available now for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch for $29.99.
So choose your fighter, work on those combos and maybe ask yourself one important question before October 9:
Which nation are you representing?
