It’s a toy’s world—and we are all just living and playing in it.
With excitement continuing to build around the newly released fifth installment of Pixar’s beloved Toy Story franchise, fans across generations are once again finding themselves reconnecting with Woody, Buzz and the rest of Andy’s toy box. While the newest adventure is set to explore the growing role technology plays in today’s world of playtime, the Toy Story franchise has always found new ways to keep the fun going far beyond the movie screen.
For many longtime fans, one of those ways was through video games.
Throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, movie tie-in games were everywhere. Whether it was on a home console, handheld system or PC, they gave players the chance to jump into the worlds they loved and create adventures of their own. Naturally, one of animation’s most iconic franchises wasn’t about to sit on the sidelines.
Now, that gaming legacy is making a return.
Atari and Digital Eclipse have officially announced Toy Story: Retro Roundup!, a new collection celebrating 30 years of the franchise by bringing together several classic adventures for modern platforms. Launching October 15 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, the collection allows both longtime fans and a whole new generation of players to experience some of Toy Story’s most memorable gaming outings once again.
Joining the celebration is Toy Story 3: Complete Edition, which brings back the beloved 2010 adventure with upgraded visuals, improved performance and previously PlayStation 3-exclusive content. That also means the return of the fan-favorite Toy Box Mode, where players can build, customize and create their own Wild West-inspired world centered around Woody’s Roundup.
The collection features:
- Toy Story (1995)
- Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue! (1999)
- Toy Story 2 (1999)
- Buzz Lightyear of Star Command (2000)
- Toy Story Racer (2001)
- A Bug’s Life (1998) as a bonus title
While every game included helps celebrate Toy Story’s long history in gaming, one inclusion especially stands out. Seeing Buzz Lightyear of Star Command make the cut is a genuinely exciting surprise. The animated series has remained a fan favorite for years, yet it often doesn’t receive the same spotlight as the main film saga. Including the game here makes the collection feel like a celebration of the wider Toy Story universe, not just the movies themselves.
As if the games weren’t enough, Toy Story: Retro Roundup! also packs in behind-the-scenes interviews, rare development materials, featurettes and a soundtrack player, giving fans another reason to take a trip back through one of Pixar’s most beloved franchises.
With Toy Story 5 reminding audiences that there is still plenty of value in imaginative play, this collection feels like the perfect excuse to pick up a controller and remember why these adventures were so much fun in the first place.
Toy Story: Retro Roundup! and Toy Story 3: Complete Edition launch together as a physical double pack on October 15.
