For years, “Subway Surfers” has made an entire game out of running around the world.
But apparently, Earth is no longer big enough.
After sending players through cities and locations across the globe, SYBO is getting ready to take its massively popular mobile game somewhere considerably more ambitious as “Subway Surfers” heads into the cosmos with its new Cosmic Crossroads event.
And this isn’t simply a space-themed coat of paint.
Inspired by decades of space-faring pop culture, Cosmic Crossroads introduces an entirely new cosmos-themed map alongside gameplay changes that quite literally change the way players move through the world.
Because what is a trip into space without a little low gravity?
Players will encounter new low-gravity challenges that allow for some much bigger jumps as they race through the vibrant galactic setting. It is a fun twist on the familiar endless-running formula that has kept “Subway Surfers” going for well over a decade.
Of course, you cannot travel across the universe without looking the part.
Cosmic Crossroads will bring new themed characters, outfits, hoverboards and profile icons to collect, including the debut of a brand-new playable character, Orion Starborn.
The event will be available every weekend from August 24 through September 13.
Yet Cosmic Crossroads isn’t going into orbit alone.
The fan-favorite “Among Us Rush” crossover is also making its return from August 24 through September 13, once again bringing the Crewmates from Innersloth’s social deduction hit into the colorful world of “Subway Surfers.”
Players will be able to run as their favorite Crewmates and earn returning cosmetics from the collaboration.
Which, considering both games are now heading into space at the same time, feels rather appropriate.
But SYBO has even more planned as summer begins giving way to fall.
Google Play users will be able to unlock the Redino character with Google Play Points from August 24 through September 13, while the Hall Pass Hijinks bundle arrives during the same period with two characters and two boards themed around the return to school.
Gamescom is also getting a little “Subway Surfers” love. Players in select markets will be able to receive a free Pixel Board from August 26 through August 30 in celebration of the massive gaming event.
Then, from August 31 through September 5, the Kaito Starter bundle will arrive with a character and board carrying a Japanese back-to-school theme.
Finally, football season gets its own moment from September 7 through September 13 with the E.Z. Touchdown bundle, featuring a new outfit for E.Z.
It makes for a rather packed end to summer for a game that certainly hasn’t shown any interest in slowing down.
More importantly, Cosmic Crossroads is another way for “Subway Surfers” to play around with its established formula. After years of sending its runners across the planet, changing gravity and taking the chase beyond Earth opens the door to something that feels familiar while still offering players a new challenge.
After all, there are only so many places left to run on Earth.
So grab a hoverboard and prepare for liftoff.
The next stop for “Subway Surfers” is somewhere among the stars.
