Mattel Celebrates the Power of Play Through Global Volunteer Efforts and Community Partnerships

Play is more than just fun.

It’s a way to learn, connect with others and build confidence that can last a lifetime.

In celebration of International Day of Play, Mattel is highlighting the impact that play can have on children and families around the world through its annual Play It Forward Global Volunteer Week and a series of new charitable partnerships designed to bring joy to communities both locally and globally.

One of the biggest highlights of this year’s celebration was Camp Mattel, which welcomed approximately 700 children from schools and nonprofit organizations across Southern California to the company’s headquarters for a day dedicated to imagination, creativity and active play.

Throughout the event, Mattel employees volunteered their time to help create memorable experiences for attendees through games, activities and hands-on experiences. Children also had the opportunity to participate in a special soccer clinic hosted in partnership with the Los Angeles Football Club.

Beyond Camp Mattel, the company expanded its efforts through a variety of community initiatives focused on making play more accessible and inclusive.

Among them was the launch of the new Hot Wheels All Drivers Welcome collection, developed alongside nonprofit organizations including the Braille Institute, Easterseals Disability Services and Starlight Children’s Foundation. The initiative aims to celebrate representation while helping more children see themselves reflected in the toys they play with.

Mattel also continued its partnership with Save the Children through a summer campaign tied to the recently released Masters of the Universe film. The collaboration includes toy donation opportunities, charitable programs and volunteer efforts designed to support children and families in underserved communities.

Employees across the globe participated in volunteer activities throughout the week, supporting organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, children’s hospitals and Ronald McDonald House programs in their local communities.

The company additionally partnered with Project Sunshine to host its first-ever Summer Solstice Play-A-Thon, helping bring moments of fun and connection to children facing medical challenges.

As families around the world celebrate International Day of Play, Mattel’s efforts serve as a reminder that play can be about much more than toys. It can also be a powerful tool for building confidence, encouraging creativity and creating meaningful memories that last long after the games have ended.
