Disney’s The Doomies – Spoiler Free Review

If you don’t read everything we talk about in our The Doomies spoiler-free review, take this away about the show: the story, the pacing, the characters, world-building, and animation style are all top-notch. There you have it, the statement that tells you this is our current top watch after getting a look at a bunch of the first few episodes. We want everyone to have the same experience as we did in getting to watch this story so we will not be including any detailed info on the episode. Let us tell you this is our spiritual successor to Gravity Falls, it has it all. Do not ruin it for yourself stay The Doomies spoiler free!

Let us talk about The Doomies characters, we have best friends Bobby and Romy who find a rock that is a portal to evil. They really do feel like real friends and they each have their own detailed background and family in a town that is high on paranormal tours. The story is bigger than just the two of them though and we get introduced to Doug the lighthouse keeper who keeps a lot of knowledge of the past light keepers about this portal. He will also bring Kim, “The Chosen One,” to this group, she has this Big City Greens Vasquez vibe to her. Jenny who is Bobby’s aunt and current caretaker also gets drawn into the story as Bobby’s mother is not around for him. We also have our background characters that flesh everything out that include the three weird old ladies in town and some of Bobby and Romy’s classmates. The voice actors are also on point, delivering believable characters. We love that the characters are relatable and you will connect with them rather quickly.

The story and pacing is well done and how they keep the serialized feel going in each episode where you learn just a little bit more of something that is going is just a major win. So the story has Bobby and Romy opening a portal to Subterra that brings monsters that rampage to the coastal town. What we find out pretty early that this portal has a much bigger background story in the past (hundreds of years), which really gives you that larger overwhelming evil feel. The pacing of The Doomies is perfect by giving us little pieces to each puzzle of the story every episode and bringing us forward with the characters in an enjoyable manner. The story has a lot going on, but not too much to be a problem and we are looking forward to seeing how these threads all come together. We know that there are going to be some great reveals and some twists and turns to this story and some great plot twists as things progress. So many questions that are out there that need to be answered and makes us want to tune in to the next episode. There is always a informational book and this go around Doug has it!

There have been a lot of shows we have been interested in where we do not love the animation style and world building, and we are happy to report this is not the case with The Doomies. With the comedy horror series we are really drawn into the town and it gives that creepy vibe with a distinct feel. Backgrounds are all full up with goodness and the colors really give it the atmosphere that fits perfect with the story.

The Doomies has a great creepy factor and comedy horror is what the show is all about. Let us be clear it is above the level you would expect. There are fun jokes about social media, school and then we also get monster guts on the screen and jump scare monster scenes.

We have to really commend everyone that is working on this show in the terms of giving us creepy, unique and fun monsters that terrorize this town. We are looking forward to see what new monsters Subterra has to give us in The Doomies.

Overall, The Doomies is a much watch for us, with everything just feeling right with each part of the show. Go watch it as it comes to Disney+ on June 26th, dropping all episodes of the season.
