Childhood Staple “Pippi Longstocking” Returns

There are some stories that never truly leave us.

They simply find new ways to introduce themselves to the next generation.

One of the most iconic and enduring characters in children’s literature is preparing for exactly that journey, as Pippi Longstocking is heading back to screens in an all-new animated television series from StudioCanal, Heyday Films, Submarine and The Astrid Lindgren Company.

The new 52-episode, 3D CGI animated series will reintroduce Astrid Lindgren’s beloved heroine to modern audiences while continuing the legacy that has made Pippi a fixture in childhoods around the world for more than eight decades.

For generations, Pippi Longstocking has represented something wonderfully different. Fearless, imaginative, independent and endlessly adventurous, she has inspired young readers to embrace their individuality and see the world through a lens of possibility. Whether through books, television adaptations or films, her spirit has remained remarkably timeless.

This newest retelling will once again follow Pippi as she arrives in town with her unmistakable red hair, mismatched stockings, pet monkey and extraordinary outlook on life. Alongside Tommy and Annika, audiences will experience the kind of adventures that have helped make the character a global phenomenon for eighty years.

The project arrives at an important milestone for the franchise. Following the character’s 80th anniversary celebration in 2025, the new series represents another chapter in a legacy that continues to connect with children across generations, cultures and mediums.

What makes this announcement especially exciting is the creative team behind it. The series is being written by award-winning screenwriter Sara Daddy and produced by the same Heyday Films team that helped bring audiences the beloved Adventures of Paddington series. With production scheduled to begin this October, the project brings together a collection of creators with extensive experience adapting cherished literary properties for modern family audiences.

The new animated series is also part of a larger expansion of the Pippi Longstocking franchise, which includes a feature film currently in development.

In an era where audiences continue to rediscover classic stories through new formats, Pippi Longstocking serves as a reminder that great characters never become outdated. Instead, they evolve alongside the generations that embrace them.

Because while the animation style, medium and audience may change over time, the heart of a story is what truly allows it to endure.

Jocelin Cap: Mother of three. That does not include the dog or my husband either! We have a full household of fun and we just love trying new products of all varieties. May not watch as many kids shows as the rest of the family though.
