To infinity and beyond…but maybe a quick slice before heading out on your next adventure.
There are many hallmarks connected to the legacy of Disney and Pixar’s long-running Toy Story franchise. The iconic and beloved characters, the memorable cloud wallpaper from Andy’s room, and the endlessly quotable lines have all become staples of pop culture. But one element that instantly throws fans back to the original film is none other than Pizza Planet.
While there was previously an actual Pizza Planet location inside the Disney Parks, the outer-space themed pizza experience remains best remembered through the first film’s unforgettable scenes featuring the claw machine and the Little Green Men. Now, fans will once again be able to experience a taste of that nostalgia through a brand-new collaboration tied to the upcoming release of Toy Story 5.
Together with popular pizza chain Papa Johns, Disney and Pixar are launching a limited-time promotional campaign inspired by the franchise and its beloved characters. Running from June 1st through July 19th, fans across the globe can celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary with themed menu items, collectibles, merchandise, immersive experiences, and even an in-app game.
At the center of the campaign are three unique personal pizza offerings, each retailing starting at $6.99:
- Space Ranger Roni – made with Papa Johns’ pizza sauce, cheese, and double pepperoni
- Sheriff’s Round Up – made with smoky Southern-style barbeque sauce, cheese, grilled chicken, and onions
- Reach for the Pie – made with pizza sauce, cheese, Italian sausage, and banana peppers
Each pizza offering in the United States will also be paired with a new themed dip, the Rootin’ Tootin’ Ranch, a creamy ranch-based sauce infused with pepperoni flavor, tomato, herbs, and spices.
Though Toy Story is certainly no stranger to collaborations, this latest promotion highlights just how expansive the film’s rollout strategy is becoming ahead of the fifth installment’s release. It also marks a first-of-its-kind collaboration for Papa Johns as theatrical film partnerships continue to grow into increasingly immersive consumer experiences.
Coming off the success and cultural impact of major brand activations tied to films such as Barbie, studios and companies alike are continuing to explore new ways for audiences to engage with the stories and characters they love beyond the theater screen. Now, more than ever, fans are being invited to not only watch their favorite franchises, but actively experience them through food, merchandise, games, and interactive marketing campaigns.
