Secrets of Sulphur Springs Season 2 is finally here, and we had the opportunity to speak to Diandra Lyle who stars as Jess Dunn. We are also loving the fact that she says Season 2 ups the spooky factor!

Diandra Lyle (Paramount Network’s American Woman) returns as ‘Jess Dunn’ in Disney Channel’s time-traveling mystery-adventure series Secrets of Sulphur Springs – Season 2 premiering Friday, January 14th at 8pm ET/PT with new episodes airing weekly. Season 1 is currently available to stream on Disney+.

BSCKids: Diandra, tell us a bit about how you got the role on Secrets of Sulphur Springs

Diandra Lyle: – Funny thing, I had actually decided to take a break from acting right before I got the audition for Sulphur Springs. The project seemed interesting, was for the role of a mom (easy, since I am one in real life!), and it didn’t hurt that I loved the casting directors. A month after I went in, I found out I booked it. I guess it wasn’t time for me to take a break after all!

Do you feel like you have anything in common with your character?

Honestly, we’re very similar! Except the fact that I was far from a ‘mean girl’ growing up (quite the opposite, actually). We’re both moms, and just like Jess, I, too, have been a single parent. We’re both determined, strong, can be a bit stubborn at times (in good ways!), tough-loving, and possess that sassy/sarcastic/playful demeanor. Oh – and we both have curls! Ha!

How much of the story do you know before you start the episode in terms of acting?

We usually get our scripts about a week before we shoot. I think the producers prefer we not know too much in advance, as it creates a genuine air of mystery for us as actors – just like the characters in the story are experiencing. There have certainly been some great theories and debates amongst cast behind the scenes when it comes to solving the mysteries and secrets of the Tremont!

What makes Secrets of Sulphur Springs different?

It isn’t your typical Disney Channel show. Although there are touches of sci-fi, it brings a lot of real-life ‘wonderings’ to the table. Is time travel real? Are ghosts real? Now, I can’t tell you if traveling through time is possible (yet!), but I do know there are quite a few people who have had paranormal experiences. Even though the show is fiction, it has a very real feel to it.

The other thing that makes it different? It appeals to all – the little kids AND the big kids (a.k.a.‘adults’)! Definitely fun for the whole family.

How has the show changed from Season 1 to Season 2?

Season 1 focused more on the disappearance of Savannah, who was thought to be haunting the Tremont. Season 2 travels even further back in time to examine the Dunn family’s connections to the Tremont. There’s still an active ‘haunting’ at the hotel as well, so if not Savannah – then who? Season 2 also amps up the ‘spooky’ factor just a bit.

If you could guest star on any currently running Disney or Disney+ show, which one would it be and why?

That’s tough! I’m not up to date on all the shows, but if I had to choose I’d say Big Shot. I’m all about girl power and sports!

Tell us something people would be surprised to learn about you?

Hmmm…. I had a pet hedgehog named Sonica in college.

Is there anything else that you are working on that you can talk about?

Nothing at the moment, just auditioning, writing, and staying ready!

Why should everyone tune in to watch the second season of Secrets Of Sulphur Springs?

There are more mysteries to solve and fun to be had! And because it’s just a great show! 😉

Damon Cap: Have three kids, two boys (18 and 16) and a girl (12). I had a grandfather that watched cartoons and read the Sunday funnies until he passed. I feel the same way and continue to watch the Disney channel in my 40s. Check out our BSCKids youtube channel Current favorite show is Amphibia.
