We have seen “Avatar: The Last Airbender” inspire a lot of things over the years.
But furry Appa sneakers?
Okay, you have our attention.
Reebok is joining forces with Paramount Products & Experiences for a new “Avatar: The Last Airbender” collection featuring four sneaker designs inspired by Aang, Appa, the Four Nations and the powerful Avatar State.
Launching October 7, the collection takes some of Reebok’s recognizable silhouettes and gives them a pretty extensive trip through the world of the beloved Nickelodeon animated series. Rather than simply adding an “Avatar” logo or familiar character to each shoe, the designs pull specific colors, textures, symbols and details from the series.
Naturally, we have to start with Appa.
A $110 Club C 85 transforms Aang’s lovable sky bison companion into something you can actually wear on your feet. The design features a hairy suede upper, fluffy lining inspired by Appa’s fur and arrow detailing recalling his recognizable markings. An embroidered elemental symbol can also be found on the heel tab.
We’re going to assume yelling “Yip yip!” will not actually make you fly while wearing them.
Still, worth a try.
For fans who have a particularly difficult time choosing between Water, Earth, Fire and Air, the $110 Classic Nylon celebrates all Four Nations. The sneaker uses canvas-inspired knit underlays alongside hairy suede overlays and cracked leather details, while a custom window box represents each element. Interchangeable hook-and-loop tongue patches featuring the elemental symbols let fans change things around depending on which nation they’re feeling that day.
Aang himself gets the most expensive pair in the collection.
The $220 Insta Fury Pump 94 takes inspiration from the young Avatar with mesh underlays, stretch canvas overlays, hairy suede accents and suede mesh lining. Most importantly, the shoe features a reflective arrow graphic across the vamp inspired by Aang’s iconic tattoos.
But you can’t really make an Aang collection without letting the Avatar State loose.
The $140 Engine A 26 draws from Aang at his most powerful, combining suede underlays with printed and debossed detailing alongside glow-in-the-dark elements. It is a fitting choice for a form of the Avatar that is rather difficult to miss once those eyes and tattoos start glowing.
Together, the four shoes manage to touch several very different pieces of what makes the original series instantly recognizable. Appa gets something soft and furry, the Four Nations are represented through interchangeable elemental details and Aang’s two designs move from his familiar arrow markings to the considerably more intense Avatar State.
More than 20 years after “Avatar: The Last Airbender” first premiered, there are now generations of fans who grew up alongside Aang, Katara, Sokka, Toph and Zuko while an entirely new group continues to discover their journey.
And there certainly hasn’t been a shortage of ways to celebrate that love lately.
Now apparently that includes wearing Appa on your feet.
Fans heading to New York Comic Con will also get a closer look at the collaboration, as Paramount is bringing a dedicated Reebok x “Avatar: The Last Airbender” footwear wall to the Paramount+ booth from Thursday through Sunday.
For everyone else, the unisex collection launches October 7 at 10 a.m. ET through Reebok.
So whether your allegiance belongs to Water, Earth, Fire or Air, there is finally an appropriate question to ask before heading out on your next adventure:
What would the Avatar wear?
