For generations, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade has been one of the most beloved holiday traditions, bringing families together each Thanksgiving morning to watch the colorful balloons, spectacular performances and familiar characters make their way through the streets of New York City. And for Disney fans, the parade has held an especially magical place, with some of the company’s most recognizable characters becoming part of this annual celebration.
Now, as Macy’s celebrates 100 years of its iconic Thanksgiving Day Parade, Disney is joining the festivities with a special collection honoring the characters, memories and moments that have helped make the event such a cherished holiday tradition.
The new Disney and Macy’s Holiday Collection, which launched online October 7 and began arriving in Macy’s stores nationwide October 13, brings together nearly a century of parade history through an assortment of apparel, accessories, collectibles and festive home décor.
And for longtime Disney enthusiasts, there’s certainly plenty of nostalgia to be found!
The collection features three distinct themes, beginning with Balloons Through the Years, which celebrates Disney’s long-standing history with the parade, dating back to Mickey Mouse’s first appearance as a giant character balloon in 1934. Featuring archival-inspired artwork of Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Buzz Lightyear and Spider-Man, the assortment includes family jackets, denim apparel, Loungefly mini backpacks, ear headbands, collectible pins, ornaments and more.
Meanwhile, March to Macy’s takes a particularly charming approach to the celebration, drawing inspiration from vintage 1930s Disney comic strips. The collection follows Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto as they make their way through Manhattan for the historic parade, with the nostalgic artwork appearing across puffer jackets, hoodies, commemorative totes, snow globes, journals and dolls from Jakks Pacific.
And of course, Disney isn’t forgetting its Marvel fans!
The Spider-Man and the Sinister Six collection celebrates the web-slinging hero’s own history with the parade, which began in 1987. Inspired by classic comic artwork and Spider-Man’s adventures throughout New York City, the assortment features bomber jackets, graphic shirts, collectible pins, figurines and even a skateboard.
The expanded collection follows the earlier introduction of a Sorcerer’s Apprentice Mickey balloon and accompanying merchandise, adding another layer to Disney and Macy’s celebration of the parade’s milestone anniversary.
What makes this collaboration particularly delightful is how it celebrates more than just the characters themselves. It honors the memories attached to them, from generations of families gathering around their televisions on Thanksgiving morning to the excitement of seeing a favorite character floating above the streets of Manhattan.
And with the holiday season quickly approaching, Disney and Macy’s are giving fans another way to bring a little of that parade magic home.
