Being Barbie has always meant you can be anything.
But what happens when you get to decide not only what Barbie wears, but how the entire world around her looks too?
Grab your best outfit ideas because Mattel is bringing a new kind of Barbie fashion experience to Roblox with “Barbie DreamStyle,” an upcoming experience that puts players behind the styling, staging and even photography of their own creations.
And this time, the other Barbies get to decide whose style stands out.
“Barbie DreamStyle” is currently in a paid beta period on Roblox, giving players an early opportunity to step inside its virtual studio while the experience continues to be developed ahead of its full launch. The team notes that features are still missing, changes should be expected and additional content will arrive before the complete experience launches.
But there is already quite a bit of fashion to play with.
Players can style their avatars using hundreds of different items, layering, mixing and matching pieces to create a look based around different themes. Instead of ending the creative process once the perfect outfit is finished, however, “DreamStyle” lets players take things considerably further.
Because every great Barbie look deserves the right setting.
Players can design their own scenes and decorate them using furniture they unlock, creating a backdrop around their finished style before staging the entire shot. Those creations can then be presented to the wider community, where other players vote on the scenes they like best. Voting can earn Hearts, while creating scenes can earn Tickets.
It turns the familiar dress-up formula into something closer to building your own miniature Barbie fashion shoot.
You aren’t simply choosing the clothes. You’re styling the model, designing the set, arranging the scene and presenting the finished creation for everyone else to see. With other players doing exactly the same thing, the community itself becomes part of the experience as everyone gets a chance to see how differently a theme can be interpreted.
And that feels particularly at home with Barbie.
Fashion has been part of Barbie’s world for generations, but so has the idea of using play to imagine something entirely your own. A single Barbie can be a doctor, astronaut, musician, athlete or anything else a child decides, and “DreamStyle” seems to be applying that same freedom to digital fashion and design.
There isn’t one way to create the look.
Build it. Layer it. Design the room around it. Stage the shot.
Then see what the other Barbies think.
The official Roblox listing credits Exclusible as producer of the experience, with Barbie and its associated trademarks owned by Mattel. As this remains a beta, what players see now isn’t necessarily what “Barbie DreamStyle” will look like when it reaches its complete launch.
For now, though, Barbie has a new studio waiting to be styled.
So come on, Barbie.
Let’s get creative.
