There are always more stories waiting to be told in Ponyville.
While Twilight Sparkle and her friends may have finished their original television adventures years ago, the magic of “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” has never completely disappeared. Between comics, books, collectibles and generations of fans who continue to discover the Mane Six, Equestria has remained a place that is rather difficult to leave behind.
This November, it is time to trot back once again.
BOOM! Studios is bringing “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” back to comics with an all-new series beginning November 11. Award-winning author Seanan McGuire is joining longtime “My Little Pony” artist Amy Mebberson to create new adventures for Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Applejack and Rarity.
For longtime readers, Mebberson’s involvement should make this return feel particularly familiar. She was part of the creative talent behind the previous era of “Friendship Is Magic” comics, and now gets to help bring that magic into another series of stories. Rather than reinventing Ponyville and its residents, the new comic is returning directly to the characters, friendships and world that made this generation of “My Little Pony” so beloved in the first place.
Naturally, their newest adventure begins with Pinkie Pie, a birthday cake and something going terribly wrong.
When one of Pinkie’s pranks results in a birthday cake disaster, the ensuing chaos ruins one of Twilight Sparkle’s beloved books. Replacing a book might sound considerably easier than most problems the Mane Six have faced over the years, but this is Equestria, after all. Their search for another copy becomes a new quest when Twilight believes the book could hold the secret to repairing broken friendships.
That premise feels wonderfully at home inside “Friendship Is Magic.” Some of the series’ most memorable adventures could begin with the smallest problems before sending the ponies across Equestria, but the heart of those stories would inevitably return to understanding one another and what friendship actually requires. A ruined book becoming the beginning of a quest about fixing broken friendships sounds like a fitting way to open another chapter.
The first issue will also receive plenty of artwork outside its pages, with covers from Mebberson, Andy Price, Nicoletta Baldari, Tony Fleecs, Jennifer Meyer and Katie Cook. “My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic” #1 will contain 24 pages and retail for $4.99 when it arrives November 11.
Yet BOOM! isn’t only looking toward the next chapter of the Mane Six’s comic adventures. The publisher is also heading back to where their previous comic journey began.
“My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Book One” will collect issues #1-16 of the earlier long-running comic series into a new 368-page middle-grade graphic novel edition. Featuring stories from fan-favorite creators including Katie Cook and Andy Price, the collection gives younger readers discovering this version of Equestria today another opportunity to experience those adventures while longtime fans can revisit an important part of the franchise’s history.
The first collected volume is scheduled for January 5, 2027, and will retail for $14.99.
It makes for rather fitting timing. A new generation of readers can begin exploring the earlier comic adventures while longtime fans simultaneously get something they have been waiting for: new stories with the Mane Six themselves.
After all, friendship may be magic—but there is apparently still plenty of magic left to create.
