Being a princess comes with quite a few expectations.
There are royal responsibilities to learn, proper protocols to follow and, eventually, perhaps even a kingdom to rule. But when you’re an energetic young Spider Princess who would much rather have fun with your friends and can literally weave webs, following all those rules might be asking a little too much.
Meet Migali.
Easy Peasy Entertainment and Bardaf! Production are preparing to introduce their new 2D animated comedy “Migali” to the international children’s entertainment industry, with the series receiving its world premiere screening at MIP Junior in Cannes on Saturday, October 10.
International buyers and children’s content executives will get the first look at a complete episode of the 52 x 11-minute series during a special screening at 4:30 p.m. in the Debussy Theatre. Moon-Keys International Content is handling distribution for the new series.
And while this might be Migali’s animated debut, the little Spider Princess already has quite a story behind her.
Designed for children ages 5–8, “Migali” is adapted from the best-selling comic series published by Auzou Éditions. The collection has grown to nine volumes and sold more than 150,000 copies, and now its colorful royal world is making the jump into animation.
The series takes viewers inside the Royal Academy, a prestigious school bringing princes and princesses from kingdoms far and wide together as they prepare for their futures. Among them is Migali, a young Spider Princess with one particularly big dream: she wants to become queen someday.
Getting there might prove to be the interesting part.
Migali can weave webs, has seemingly endless amounts of energy and possesses a rather impressive ability to turn even an ordinary school day into complete mayhem. While the Royal Academy might be there to teach its students the finer points of royal life, Migali is far more interested in having fun, making friends and seeing where her latest adventure takes her.
Which, really, sounds like a much more entertaining school day.
That also gives “Migali” a playful spin on the familiar princess story. Royal life may provide the setting and becoming queen might be waiting somewhere in Migali’s future, but she is still a child navigating school, friendships, expectations and all of the chaos that can come along with growing up. She just happens to be doing it while swinging around on spider webs.
Easy Peasy Entertainment CEO and producer Adélaïde Terme described Migali as a sincere, generous and imperfect heroine capable of bringing audiences together. The premiere is also an important milestone for the studio, marking Easy Peasy Entertainment’s first production and bringing it to MIP Junior with partners TF1, RTBF, RTS and VRT.
For the international children’s entertainment industry, the October screening will offer the first opportunity to see how Migali’s established comic-book world translates into animation. For everyone else, it introduces a princess who might someday be perfectly ready to sit on a throne.
She just has a little royal mayhem to cause first.
