What will Bluey and Bingo play today?
Well, come summer 2027, that might be entirely up to you.
MAGNA-TILES is teaming up with BBC Studios for its first-ever “Bluey” collection, bringing the imaginative world of the Heelers to the magnetic building brand. The new line will allow kids to build familiar places, recreate moments from the series or, perhaps most appropriately for “Bluey,” forget the rules entirely and make up a new game of their own.
The collection is set to launch across multiple regions in summer 2027, putting it on shelves around the same time excitement surrounding the upcoming “Bluey” feature film will be reaching an entirely new level.
While specific sets have yet to be revealed, the collection will feature character figures from the series that can be incorporated into kids’ builds. The new “Bluey” pieces will also work alongside existing MAGNA-TILES, allowing children who already have a collection to expand their creations rather than keeping the Heelers inside one predetermined playset.
And honestly, it is difficult to imagine a property better suited for that kind of open-ended play.
For all the wonderfully memorable characters, locations and stories “Bluey” has introduced, play has always been at the heart of the series. Bluey and Bingo can transform an ordinary afternoon into an adventure simply by deciding that the couch, backyard, playground or whatever happens to be around them is suddenly part of a completely different world. The objects themselves aren’t nearly as important as what the girls imagine they can become.
MAGNA-TILES works from a remarkably similar idea. Give kids the pieces and let them decide whether they’re building a house, castle, obstacle course or something that doesn’t have a name until five minutes after they finish creating it.
Naturally, that also means there is plenty of room to recreate the world of “Bluey.” MAGNA-TILES President Michael Valenta says children will be able to build some of the Heelers’ favorite places, recreate adventures from the show and develop entirely new ones themselves as the company brings its “Meaningful Play” philosophy together with the series.
That ability to move between recreating and inventing may ultimately be what makes the collaboration particularly fitting. Kids can build something recognizable from an episode one minute, introduce Bluey and Bingo to a completely different MAGNA-TILES creation the next and then dismantle everything because a much better game has suddenly come to mind.
Which, really, sounds exactly like something Bluey would do.
