A new Avatar is about to rise.
And what better place to celebrate the beginning of an entirely new era of the “Avatar” universe than one of the biggest pop culture celebrations around?
“Avatar: Seven Havens” is officially heading to New York Comic Con, where Paramount will celebrate the highly anticipated animated series with a Main Stage panel on Friday, October 9—the very same day Pavi’s story premieres.
Running from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. ET, the “Avatar: Seven Havens” panel will bring together some of the people responsible for ushering the franchise into its next generation. Executive producers and “Avatar: The Last Airbender” co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will be joined by executive producers Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi to take fans behind the making of the new series.
But you can’t exactly welcome a new Avatar without the Avatar herself.
Saheli Khan, who voices new Earthbender Avatar Pavi, will join the panel alongside Aishu Devan, the voice of Pavi’s twin sister Nisha, and Major Curda, who voices Jae. Together, the creative team and cast will offer fans an exclusive look at the making of “Seven Havens” as the series begins its journey.
And helping welcome them to the stage will be someone who knows a thing or two about carrying the Avatar title.
Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra, will moderate the panel, creating a rather fitting bridge between the Avatar whose era helped shape the franchise’s previous chapter and the cast now stepping forward to begin the next one.
The celebration won’t stop with “Seven Havens,” either.
Paramount is promising news about what comes next for the larger “Avatar Legends” universe, making the NYCC appearance about considerably more than the premiere of a single series. With “Seven Havens” opening a new period in the world’s history, the panel offers an opportunity to look both at how Pavi’s adventure was created and where the increasingly expansive franchise plans to travel next.
For fans attending New York Comic Con, there will be even more bending waiting away from the Main Stage. The Paramount+ booth will receive an “Avatar Legends” transformation with photo opportunities and exclusive swag, including footwear created through a collaboration with Reebok. So, yes, apparently you can now work on mastering the four elements while making sure your shoes are appropriately prepared for the occasion.
The celebration is also extending beyond the convention floor.
Paramount Games will host a special “Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game” event at OS: NYC on October 9. Fans can expect a Four Nations Food Cart, giveaways and a tournament centered around the upcoming fighting game, complete with special prizes.
Taken together, it makes for quite the premiere day.
“Avatar: Seven Havens” already represents a major new chapter for a world audiences have followed for more than two decades. Pavi isn’t simply another character entering an established story; she is the next Avatar, arriving in a world dramatically changed from the eras of Aang and Korra. Bringing her debut to the Main Stage at New York Comic Con gives that transition an appropriately large celebration.
There is something particularly fitting about having Varney there as well. The Avatar cycle has always been about one life following another, with each Avatar inheriting a world shaped by those who came before them. On October 9, the actor behind Korra will quite literally help introduce the people bringing the next Avatar’s era to life.
Now that is one way to begin a new cycle.
The “Avatar: Seven Havens” panel will take place Friday, October 9, from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. ET on the Main Stage at New York Comic Con.
The Seven Havens are calling.
And for one very big day in New York, it looks like all Four Nations are invited.
