For years, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” fans waited to see Aang, Katara, Sokka and the rest of Team Avatar return for another animated adventure.
The road there certainly wasn’t the one anyone expected.
After years of anticipation, “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” ultimately made its major debut on Paramount+ this summer rather than receiving the kind of wide theatrical run many fans once envisioned. Yet that didn’t stop audiences from returning to the Four Nations, with the film finding a warm reception after arriving on the streaming service July 24.
Now Aang’s latest adventure is finally coming home in another way.
Paramount and Alliance Home Entertainment are bringing “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” to DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD, giving fans the chance to add the newest chapter of Aang’s story to their physical collections.
The DVD and Blu-ray editions will arrive November 3, while fans looking for the 4K Ultra HD release will have to wait a little longer, with that version scheduled for February 9, 2027.
For a film fans spent years waiting to see, there is something especially fitting about finally being able to place it on a shelf alongside the rest of the “Avatar” world.
The movie’s release journey was unusually complicated. Paramount had previously positioned the film as a Paramount+ exclusive, while many fans continued hoping it might receive a larger theatrical release. Those hopes only intensified following the highly publicized leak of the full movie earlier this year. In the end, “Avatar Aang” received only an extremely limited theatrical run before becoming widely available through streaming.
Despite the unusual circumstances surrounding its arrival, the film appears to have found its audience. It currently holds a 90% critics score and 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, giving longtime fans another opportunity to revisit characters who helped define an entire generation of animation.
Yet perhaps the most exciting thing about bringing Aang home now is what is waiting immediately ahead.
For a long time, the animated “Avatar” universe felt remarkably quiet. “The Legend of Korra” concluded in 2014, leaving fans with more than a decade between major animated television chapters. In 2026, that silence has very clearly ended.
“Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” allowed audiences to return to one beloved generation of the Avatar cycle, but October will introduce the next.
“Avatar: Seven Havens” premieres October 9 on Paramount+, following Pavi, a young Earthbender who becomes the next Avatar in a dramatically changed, post-apocalyptic world. The series has already received a two-season order consisting of 13 episodes each, beginning another major chapter for the franchise.
That creates an interesting moment for “Avatar” fans.
We are able to look backward and forward almost simultaneously. Aang’s story is continuing beyond the childhood adventures many of us grew up watching, while another Avatar is preparing to take her first steps into a world of her own.
There has always been something wonderfully appropriate about that for this franchise. “Avatar” is built around cycles—different lives, different generations and different heroes inheriting the responsibility of those who came before them.
Now the franchise itself seems to be entering one of those cycles.
“Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender” arrives on DVD and Blu-ray November 3, with the 4K Ultra HD edition following February 9, 2027.

Then, very soon, it will be time to meet the next Avatar.
