Calling all gamers: IKEA is officially gearing up for your next gaming session.
The massive home furnishings company has teamed up with Xbox for YXSTABY, a new nine-piece collection designed around something a lot of gaming furniture tends to forget — gaming doesn’t always happen inside a perfectly dedicated setup.
Sometimes you are at a desk. Sometimes you are on the couch. Sometimes the console has somehow migrated into another room entirely.
YXSTABY is designed around exactly that reality, blending gaming functionality into furniture that can still comfortably exist throughout the rest of the home.
The collection brings together Xbox’s 25 years inside the gaming space with IKEA’s decades of home design experience. During development, the teams even visited homes where gaming was already part of everyday life, looking at how players actually use their spaces rather than simply creating another range of oversized “gaming” furniture.
That approach has resulted in some rather clever additions.
One of the biggest is IKEA’s first rolling TV stand, allowing a screen and gaming setup to move between rooms while also offering built-in storage for consoles and other equipment.
There is also a toolbox designed to keep controllers, cables and other accessories together, with its lid doubling as a laptop stand. A rolling side table adds additional hidden storage and space for charging equipment, while a monitor stand raises screens while keeping phones, headphones and controllers organized underneath.
Yet the Xbox influence isn’t simply hidden inside the functionality.
Several pieces directly pull design inspiration from the familiar Xbox controller.
The collection includes a D-pad-shaped cushion and stainless steel platter, as well as a mirrored display box for showing off controllers and collectibles.
Then there is perhaps the most amusing piece of the entire collection: a thumbstick stool.
Created using the original 3D design files from the Xbox controller, the stool recreates the familiar thumbstick shape and grip texture while even tilting with the person sitting on it.
Yes. You can essentially sit on a giant Xbox thumbstick.
And somehow, coming from IKEA and Xbox, that makes perfect sense.
The collection carries a more understated look overall, using straight lines and softer shapes with white, black and beige tones alongside touches of Xbox green around areas intended for gaming gear.
That also appears to be the larger point behind YXSTABY.
Gaming has become such a regular part of home entertainment that it doesn’t necessarily need to be separated into its own neon-lit corner anymore. Consoles, controllers and screens are already sharing space with everything else inside our homes, and this collection is attempting to make that relationship a little easier — and considerably more organized.
The IKEA x Xbox YXSTABY collection will make its debut at Gamescom before arriving at IKEA stores and online this fall, with availability varying by market.
Now the only question is whether that rolling TV stand makes it easier to move the gaming setup around the house — or simply makes it harder for someone else to tell you it is time to stop playing.
