The cold never bothered us anyway.
More than a decade after Disney first invited audiences into the kingdom of Arendelle, one of the biggest animated franchises to emerge from the 2010s is preparing to work its magic once again.
And this time, wedding bells are ringing.
Disney has offered fans their biggest look yet at Frozen 3, revealing that Anna and Kristoff are finally getting married when Elsa, Anna, Olaf and the rest of our favorite Arendelle residents return to theaters on November 24, 2027.
But don’t start planning the reception quite yet.
Because while love is in the air, something much colder — and potentially far more dangerous — is waiting beyond Arendelle.
During Disney’s D23 Entertainment Showcase, Kristen Bell confirmed that Anna will marry her longtime “mountain man” Kristoff in the upcoming film, bringing their relationship into its next chapter after everything the pair have experienced across the first two movies.
Of course, what would Anna’s wedding be without Elsa by her side?
Yet it appears Anna’s happily ever after may also be the beginning of the sisters’ next great adventure.
Footage shown exclusively during D23 finds Anna and Kristoff on their wedding night discovering Elsa on a dock, where she is examining a mysterious stone.
And we all know by now that when mysterious magic starts calling Elsa, things are probably about to get complicated.
The stone seemingly opens a portal into an entirely new frozen world, described by Idina Menzel as a land “more wild and dangerous” than anything Elsa has ever created.
That alone raises some rather massive questions.
Frozen 2 expanded the mythology surrounding Elsa’s abilities, revealing the elemental spirits and uncovering more about the origins of her magic. But if there is another frozen realm beyond everything Elsa already understands, just how much about her powers — and the larger magical world surrounding Arendelle — remains undiscovered?
More importantly, who else might possess magic like hers?
Anna, Elsa and company apparently won’t have long to find out.
After venturing through the portal, the group encounters a mysterious new character who doesn’t appear particularly happy to see them. While Disney isn’t ready to completely pull back the icy curtain on its newest threat, the character shown during the footage appears to be a woman with short black hair and a flowing cape.
Could we finally be looking at a magical opponent capable of challenging Elsa on her own level?
After two movies where Elsa’s greatest battles were largely tied to herself, her family and the history surrounding Arendelle, introducing someone who could directly challenge her abilities could take Frozen into very different territory.
And there is even more magic ahead.
Disney previously teased Anna and Elsa traveling beyond Arendelle and the Enchanted Forest toward another mysterious realm. With Frozen 3 now opening the door — quite literally — to a new frozen land, those earlier pieces are beginning to come together.
Still, not everything waiting for us is dangerous.
Olaf is also getting a little romance of his own.
Yes, Samantha may finally be real.
After Olaf’s memorable running joke in Frozen 2, the lovable snowman is getting a love interest named Samantha. Josh Gad joined Bell and Menzel at D23 to debut a new song surrounding Olaf’s newfound love, while Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez are once again returning to provide music for the film.
Between Anna’s wedding, Olaf finding love and Elsa uncovering another mysterious corner of the magical world, Frozen 3 already feels like it is pushing every member of this family into a new stage of their lives.
But this adventure is only part of a much bigger story.
Disney has already confirmed that Frozen 4 is in development, with filmmaker Jennifer Lee previously revealing that there were simply too many unanswered questions following Frozen 2 to fit everything into a single movie.
That makes Frozen 3 particularly interesting.
Rather than another self-contained journey, we could be watching the opening half of the biggest Frozen story Disney has attempted yet.
After all, Frozen has come a very long way since Anna first knocked on Elsa’s door and asked if she wanted to build a snowman.
Now there is a wedding to plan, another magical world to explore, a mysterious villain waiting in the snow and questions surrounding Elsa’s powers that may reach far beyond Arendelle.
Magic is once again in the air.
And come Thanksgiving 2027, it looks like we’re going into the unknown one more time.
