Oh, biscuits! One of the biggest children’s franchises in the world is about to get a whole lot bigger.
Over the last several years, Bluey has gone from an Australian animated preschool series about a family of Blue Heelers to a genuine global phenomenon. Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and Chilli have found their way into homes around the world, becoming just as beloved by parents as they are by the children sitting beside them.
Now, Bluey is ready to make perhaps her biggest jump yet.
The first trailer for The Bluey Movie has officially arrived, giving fans their first taste of Bluey’s move from the small screen to movie theaters.
And for a franchise this massive, that is a pretty big deal.
Revealed during Disney’s D23 celebration, The Bluey Movie will bring the world of the hit series to theaters on August 6, 2027, with series creator Joe Brumm writing and co-directing alongside Richard Jeffery.
While we still have nearly a year before Bluey makes her theatrical debut, the first trailer begins to open the door to what this bigger adventure has in store.
The movie will follow Bluey and her family across an action-packed day when one major surprise changes everything for the Heelers.
That might sound like a relatively simple premise, but simplicity has always been part of what makes Bluey work so well.
Rather than sending its characters on massive fantasy quests or constantly trying to raise the stakes, Bluey has built its success around childhood, family and imaginative play. Everyday experiences become adventures through the eyes of Bluey and Bingo, while those stories often carry another emotional layer for the adults watching alongside them.
It is a formula that has turned the series into one of the most recognizable pieces of children’s entertainment currently on television.
In fact, Bluey ranked as the No. 2 streaming title overall during the first half of 2026, putting this little blue pup alongside some of the biggest entertainment properties in the world.
But moving to theaters presents an entirely different challenge.
How do you take everything audiences love about a seven-minute episode of Bluey and transform it into a theatrical story without losing the smaller moments that made the series special in the first place?
That might be one of the most interesting things to watch as we learn more about the movie.
Because this doesn’t need to turn Bluey into something she isn’t simply because the screen is getting bigger.
Instead, The Bluey Movie has the opportunity to take those familiar emotions, games and family moments and give them enough room to become something even larger — especially when generations of families will now be experiencing them together inside a movie theater.
Helping keep that familiar feeling intact will be the return of Melanie Zanetti as Chilli and David McCormack as Bandit, with Ludo Studio producing the CG-animated film in collaboration with BBC Studios.
And while Bluey has already conquered television, streaming, toys, books, live entertainment and just about every corner of children’s pop culture, the big screen represents something different.
This is Bluey becoming a theatrical franchise.
For kids who have grown up with Bluey and Bingo — and parents who have probably watched the same episodes more times than they would ever admit — seeing the Heeler family towering over a movie theater is going to be quite the moment.
We just have one rather difficult game of keepy uppy to play first.
