Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Soon, he’ll be living on collectors’ display shelves around the world.
After entertaining generations of families for more than 25 years, SpongeBob SquarePants is taking another exciting step in its evolution as one of America’s most recognizable animated franchises. The LEGO Group has officially unveiled the first-ever LEGO Icons SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom building set, designed specifically with adult fans in mind.
Created in partnership with Paramount Products & Experiences, the impressive 1,794-piece set recreates some of Bikini Bottom’s most iconic landmarks, including SpongeBob’s pineapple home, Squidward’s Easter Island-inspired house, Patrick’s famous rock and a colorful Jellyfish Fields display.
The set is filled with nods longtime fans will immediately recognize. Builders will discover detailed interiors, SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward minifigures, brick-built versions of Gary and DoodleBob, the iconic boatmobile, Squidward’s clarinet and plenty of other memorable references pulled straight from the beloved animated series.
The release also reflects how play continues to evolve alongside the audiences who grew up with it.
Many of today’s adults first met SpongeBob during childhood, spending afternoons laughing alongside Bikini Bottom’s unforgettable cast of characters. Years later, those same fans are discovering new ways to reconnect with the series through premium collectibles, display models and creative building experiences that celebrate the nostalgia they grew up with while embracing hobbies they enjoy today.
LEGO has become an increasingly popular destination for that kind of storytelling, transforming beloved animated worlds into immersive building experiences that encourage creativity long after traditional playtime has ended. Rather than replacing imaginative play, these larger collector-focused sets invite fans to rebuild the worlds that helped shape their childhoods—one brick at a time.
For SpongeBob SquarePants, it is another reminder of the franchise’s remarkable staying power. More than two decades after first introducing audiences to Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob continues finding new ways to connect with fans across generations, proving that great characters never really stop growing—they simply discover new audiences and new ways to play.
Whether displayed proudly on a shelf or enjoyed as the next weekend building project, the new LEGO Icons set offers longtime fans another opportunity to dive back beneath the waves and revisit one of animation’s most enduring worlds.
The LEGO Icons SpongeBob SquarePants: Bikini Bottom set is available for pre-order now ahead of its Sept. 1 release.
