Long after they first became a staple of family dining, kids’ meals continue proving they’re one of entertainment’s most enduring marketing platforms.
For generations, restaurants have partnered with some of the world’s biggest franchises to transform an ordinary meal into a collectible experience. Now, another iconic video game series is joining that tradition as Wendy’s rolls out a new Sonic the Hedgehog-themed Kids’ Meal across participating locations throughout the United States.
Launching July 20 and running through early September, the promotion celebrates the 35th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog while giving fans another way to bring the Blue Blur’s world beyond the screen.
Each Kids’ Meal includes one of seven collectible character card cases, with every case containing five trading cards. Altogether, families can collect 35 different cards featuring fan-favorite characters including Sonic, Amy Rose, Miles “Tails” Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Shadow the Hedgehog, Silver the Hedgehog and Rouge the Bat.
The collaboration continues a long tradition of entertainment brands teaming up with restaurants to reach families in their everyday routines. While toys once dominated kids’ meal promotions, collectible cards and themed packaging have become increasingly popular, giving longtime fans and younger audiences alike another reason to return throughout the promotional period.
For Sonic the Hedgehog, the promotion is another example of the franchise’s continued momentum during its milestone anniversary year. Decades after first speeding onto video game consoles, the series continues finding new ways to connect with audiences through licensing partnerships, collectibles and family-focused promotions that extend far beyond gaming.
The limited-time promotion is available with Wendy’s Kids’ Meals while supplies last at participating restaurants nationwide, as well as through the Wendy’s app and Wendy’s website. Families can choose from two-piece chicken tenders, four-piece chicken nuggets, a hamburger or cheeseburger, paired with Jr. Hot & Crispy Fries or apple bites and a kids’ drink.
As entertainment companies continue expanding beyond television, film and gaming, promotions like these highlight how kids’ meals remain a familiar way for families to discover new collectibles, celebrate beloved characters and bring a little extra excitement to everyday outings—proving that, even after all these years, they’re still very much part of the family entertainment experience.
