Our first trip into Not Alone has officially arrived.
After announcing the upcoming original animated adventure earlier this year, Illumination has now released the very first teaser trailer for Not Alone, offering audiences their first glimpse of the studio’s heartfelt sci-fi comedy before it blasts into theaters on April 16, 2027.
While the teaser keeps many of the story’s biggest surprises under wraps, it introduces viewers to Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic, and Fran, a brilliant astro-botanist whose groundbreaking plant-powered rocket project unexpectedly becomes intertwined with an adorable trio of alien visitors searching for a way home.
The preview leans into the film’s blend of heartfelt relationships, gentle comedy and intergalactic adventure, teasing a story that appears just as focused on human connection as it is on exploring the stars.
Leading the voice cast are Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez, joined by Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, Jamie Demetriou, Brett Goldstein, Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris.
For longtime Illumination fans, the teaser also offers the first taste of another original world from the studio behind Despicable Me, Minions, Sing and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. While those franchises continue entertaining audiences around the globe, Not Alone represents another opportunity for Illumination to introduce families to an entirely new cast of characters and an original story filled with humor, heart and plenty of cosmic adventure.
It also continues a growing trend across children’s entertainment, where science fiction is enjoying an exciting resurgence. Alongside stories exploring magical worlds and fantasy adventures, more studios are embracing imaginative journeys through space, alien encounters and futuristic discoveries, giving young audiences even more opportunities to dream beyond the stars.
Although this first teaser only offers a small glimpse of what awaits, it succeeds in doing exactly what a great first look should—sparking curiosity while leaving audiences eager to discover more when Not Alone lands in theaters next spring.
Not Alone opens exclusively in theaters on April 16, 2027.
