Hasbro Continues Bringing Classic Playtime Heroes To The Big Screen With New “G.I. Joe” Film

Another legendary toy box adventure is preparing for its next mission.

As Hasbro continues expanding many of its most recognizable brands beyond the toy aisle, G.I. Joe is officially marching back to the big screen. Paramount has announced that filmmaker Danny McBride will direct the next feature film inspired by the iconic action franchise, marking another major step in the property’s next evolution.

While story details remain tightly under wraps, the project has reportedly become a high priority for the studio following McBride’s appointment as both writer and director.

For generations of fans, G.I. Joe has represented far more than a line of action figures. After first debuting in the 1960s, the franchise exploded in popularity throughout the 1980s, when its animated series introduced audiences to unforgettable heroes including Duke, Roadblock and Snake Eyes. Alongside its memorable adventures and larger-than-life battles, the series helped define an era of action animation that continues influencing storytellers today.

The new film also reflects Hasbro’s continued commitment to expanding its biggest brands through film, television, publishing, music and interactive entertainment. As audiences have seen with recent investments across Transformers, Peppa Pig, My Little Pony, Monopoly and other beloved properties, the company continues finding new ways to bring classic playtime experiences to audiences both on and off the screen.

That strategy has become increasingly important as today’s biggest toy brands evolve into full entertainment franchises. Characters that once lived primarily in children’s imaginations are now continuing their adventures through blockbuster films, streaming series, books, games and live experiences, allowing longtime fans and entirely new audiences to connect with them in fresh ways.

For G.I. Joe, this latest film also represents an opportunity to introduce one of America’s most influential action brands to a new generation while honoring the legacy that helped establish it as a cornerstone of children’s entertainment for decades.

As Hasbro continues building the future of its entertainment portfolio, one thing is becoming increasingly clear: some of childhood’s greatest adventures don’t end when playtime is over—they’re simply finding exciting new missions on the screen.

The new G.I. Joe film is currently in development at Paramount.
