Return To The Lost City In New Graphic Novel For Disney’s “Atlantis: The Lost Empire”

The lost city is calling once again.

Fans of Disney’s beloved cult classic Atlantis: The Lost Empire have an exciting new adventure to look forward to as Papercutz has officially announced Disney Atlantis: The Lost Empire Vol. 1: The Curse of Kurok, an all-new graphic novel arriving this October.

Set after the events of the original animated film, the story reunites Milo Thatch and Queen Kida as they face a brand-new threat emerging from the depths of Atlantis. When a mysterious danger from the kingdom’s ancient past begins to surface, the pair must uncover forgotten legends and long-lost secrets in order to protect both Atlantis and the world around them.

Written by Matthew Manning and illustrated by Christian Colbert, The Curse of Kurok promises plenty of the adventure, mystery and discovery that helped make the original film a fan favorite. Readers can expect ancient legends, dangerous new challenges and a return to the breathtaking underwater world that has continued to capture imaginations since the movie first arrived in theaters.

For many Disney fans, Atlantis: The Lost Empire remains one of the studio’s most underrated animated films. While the 2001 adventure never reached the same commercial heights as some of Disney’s biggest hits, its rich worldbuilding, memorable characters and ambitious storytelling helped it build a devoted following that has only grown stronger over the years.

Now, with The Curse of Kurok, the lost city is receiving something fans have been hoping for for decades — a brand-new adventure featuring some of the franchise’s most beloved characters. The graphic novel not only expands the story of Milo and Kida, but also arrives at a time when Disney has increasingly explored new ways to revisit classic stories through books, comics, games and other forms of storytelling.

Beyond the return of Atlantis itself, the release may also signal new opportunities for Disney’s vast library of legacy properties. Rather than relying solely on sequels or live-action remakes, projects like this allow older worlds and characters to continue growing while introducing them to entirely new audiences.

While nothing beyond The Curse of Kurok has been announced, its release creates an exciting possibility. If fan-favorite films such as Atlantis can find new life through graphic novels and expanded storytelling, perhaps other beloved Disney series and films could one day receive similar opportunities to continue their stories as well.

Whether this is simply a standalone adventure or the beginning of a larger effort to reintroduce audiences to some of Disney’s most overlooked gems remains to be seen. Either way, longtime fans finally have a reason to return to one of Disney’s most fascinating forgotten worlds.

Twenty-five years after audiences first followed Milo beneath the waves, the lost city is once again rising to the surface. And for fans who have spent years keeping the spirit of Atlantis alive, that may be the greatest treasure of all.

Disney Atlantis: The Lost Empire Vol. 1: The Curse of Kurok arrives October 13, 2026.

Will you be diving back into Atlantis when this new adventure arrives?
