The Land of Ooo just keeps getting bigger.
More than a decade after Adventure Time first introduced audiences to one of animation’s most imaginative worlds, Warner Bros. Animation isn’t slowing down its journey through the beloved franchise. Instead, it’s expanding it once again.
Announced during the studio’s Annecy Animation Festival showcase, “Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline” has officially received a straight-to-series, 10-episode order from HBO Max, becoming the latest chapter in the ever-growing Adventure Time universe.
Produced alongside Cartoon Network Studios, the new series continues Warner Bros.’ commitment to building upon one of modern animation’s most celebrated franchises. Following the success of Adventure Time: Distant Lands and the critically acclaimed Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, the latest installment shifts the spotlight onto two of the franchise’s most beloved characters—Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen.
The series will follow the pair as they venture across the farthest reaches of Ooo, encountering both familiar faces and brand-new dangers along the way. Unlike the more standalone adventures featured in the upcoming Adventure Time: Side Quests, this newest series is expected to tell an ongoing serialized story spanning multiple episodes and potentially multiple seasons.
Returning to help guide the franchise forward is Emmy Award-winning Adventure Time veteran Adam Muto, who once again serves as showrunner and executive producer. Longtime franchise producer Fred Seibert and Warner Bros. Animation, Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe president Sam Register also return as executive producers.
For longtime fans, Bubblegum and Marceline taking center stage feels like a natural next step. The duo has remained among the franchise’s most popular characters for years, with their relationship becoming one of the defining moments in modern children’s animation after being officially confirmed during the original series’ finale.
Their return also reinforces Warner Bros.’ broader strategy of continuing to grow the Adventure Time universe rather than simply revisiting it. Each new project has explored a different corner of Ooo, introducing fresh stories while expanding the mythology that has helped keep the franchise relevant with both longtime fans and entirely new audiences.
With Side Quests preparing to debut later this month and Bubblegum and Marceline now officially joining the slate, the future of Adventure Time looks larger than ever.
