First reported in February, Mattel is set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first full-length animated Barbie film, Barbie in the Nutcracker.
Originally released in 2001, the film has since become a nostalgic staple of the early 2000s, following Barbie as Clara in a reimagined take on the classic Nutcracker story.
To mark the milestone, Mattel is rolling out a broad range of anniversary products, including a new line of dolls timed for the holiday season. The celebration will also extend to the screen with a new animated retelling of the wintertime tale, this time centered on both Barbie “Malibu” and Barbie “Brooklyn.”
While the film is expected to debut closer to the holiday season, the rollout will begin earlier with an official tie-in book, slated for publication on September 8. Alongside first-look imagery, a new synopsis for the project has also been released:
