Marking the 40th anniversary of the beloved brand, Mattel is going all out in celebration with its classic American Girl line.
Earlier this year, the company introduced a new range of dolls that reimagined several iconic characters in modern, contemporary styles. The collection featured fan favorites including Samantha, Kirsten, Addy, Josefina, Molly, and Felicity.
While the updated designs were met with excitement, they also sparked renewed demand from fans for rereleases of the original historical dolls to accompany these modern interpretations.
With the brand’s milestone anniversary in full swing, it comes as no surprise that Mattel is now answering that call.
Beginning April 7, American Girl will rerelease eight of its original historical characters, available for purchase online. Each doll will feature authentic outfits, accessories, and a book, retailing for $175.
A key focus of this rerelease is authenticity. These new editions closely reflect the original versions, bringing back signature meet outfits, classic accessories, and nostalgic packaging. The goal is to give both longtime fans and newcomers the feeling of holding a true piece of American Girl history.
Each doll will also include either its original Meet novel or an all-new Keepsake Guide. These guides offer behind-the-scenes insights into the creation of the characters, along with additional details that fans will enjoy exploring.
The eight returning characters include Addy Walker, Felicity Merriman, Josefina Montoya, Kirsten Larson, Kaya, Kit Kittredge, Molly McIntire, and Samantha Parkington.
There’s no better way to celebrate a milestone like this than by honoring the brand’s roots while continuing to evolve. By pairing modern reinterpretations with faithful rereleases, American Girl proves it can balance nostalgia with innovation—inviting both new and longtime fans to experience the brand in a meaningful way for years to come.
