 Unicorn Academy: Secrets Revealed Review

Ride Back to Unicorn Island With New Eight-Episode Season

The legend of the first unicorn rider. Family conflict. The quest to set things right. It’s certainly shaping up to be another adventure-filled year for the unicorn riders of the Sapphire dorm.

Coming off their summer break, the riders are ready to take the new school year by storm—sporting new looks and feeling confident after everything they accomplished during their first year on the island.

Though Sophia achieved her goal of saving her long-lost father, Miles, and bringing him home, it came at a cost—the return of Grimoria and Ravenzella. Threats that once again loom over Unicorn Island and everyone who calls it home.

That danger becomes immediately clear upon the students’ return. Before the school year can even properly begin, the academy is attacked by Ravenzella and her monsters. While most students rush to take refuge within the school’s walls, the Sapphires charge into battle—despite being told to retreat.

Having faced Ravenzella before and won, the group doesn’t view this fight with the same fear as others—especially Sophia, who is determined to defeat her once again. While Sophia rides Wildstar to confront Ravenzella directly, the rest of the group takes on her monster.

The battle proves far more difficult than expected. Though the monster is ultimately stopped, Ravenzella escapes—much to Sophia’s frustration. Worse still, in the heat of the fight, Sophia accidentally damages the statue of her father. Given both her personal connection and the symbol it represents, the moment hits hard, deepening the guilt she already carries.

But it isn’t just the statue that weighs on her.

Despite having her family back together and enjoying time with them over the summer, Sophia is now forced to face the consequences of her actions. While her friends hold no resentment toward her, the same cannot be said for the rest of the island.

With Ravenzella’s return, new safety measures—including curfews—are put in place. However, many students don’t see these as protection, but as punishment brought on by Sophia and the Sapphires. They make their frustrations known through public blame, social isolation, and even petty behavior like cheating during class to get even.

And it isn’t just their peers.

The faculty—especially Ms. Primrose—are equally displeased. Frustrated by the Sapphires’ repeated disregard for authority, she warns that one more incident will result in suspension for the entire group.

While intended to curb their impulsive behavior, this ultimatum only adds to the emotional strain. It deepens Sophia’s guilt while also driving her determination to fix things. At the same time, it creates tension within the group, as Roy, Valentina, Layla, and Ava must now navigate a reality where a single mistake could cost them everything.

This pressure not only strains their bond, but also discourages them from seeking guidance from the very adults meant to support them.

At the same time, a new opportunity emerges.

Over the summer, Valentina receives a family heirloom from her grandmother—the Fairy Tiara. Once belonging to Solaria, the first unicorn rider and Valentina’s ancestor, the tiara is said to have played a key role in banishing evil from Unicorn Island.

With six missing gemstones needed to restore its power, Sophia and Valentina set out on a quest to recover them. For Sophia, it’s about redemption. For Valentina, it’s something more personal.

Despite how far she’s come, Valentina continues to struggle under the weight of her family’s expectations. As a member of the prestigious Furi family, she feels pressure to be extraordinary—not secondary.

Those feelings intensify with the upcoming Solaria Festival, a celebration honoring the island’s history, and the arrival of her cousin Serena.

Unlike Valentina, Serena has stepped away from the traditional path of a unicorn rider, choosing instead to become a successful pop star. While admired by many students—especially Layla—she is considered the “black sheep” of the Furi family.

With both Sophia and Valentina feeling they have something to prove, the group begins their search for the scattered gemstones. Though initially successful, their mission takes a turn when the final gem is discovered within Grimoria.

Understandably, not everyone is eager to return. Layla’s anxiety and the group’s past experiences create division, with Valentina pushing forward while others hesitate.

Eventually, they venture inside—but the mission quickly falls apart. Facing Ravenzella once again, the group’s fractured dynamic leads to a chaotic battle. Forced to retreat, they leave empty-handed—and with Wildstar injured.

Seeing Wildstar hurt because of her actions breaks something inside Sophia. But it also leads to a revelation: both of her parents were once unicorn riders, including her mother, Marta.

Even with her parents by her side, things continue to unravel. Ms. Primrose, having reached her limit, prepares to follow through on her threat of suspension.

Trying to protect one another, the still-divided Sapphires cover for each other—but the weight ultimately falls on Sophia. After a heartfelt conversation with her parents, she takes full responsibility for her actions. The result: expulsion.

Saying goodbye to her friends is difficult—but leaving Wildstar behind is nearly impossible.

However, before she can leave the island, Sophia discovers her friends have been captured by Ravenzella. Acting on instinct, she rushes to save them—only to fall into a trap.

There, she comes face to face not only with Ravenzella, but with Serena—who reveals her true intentions. In a shocking twist, Serena trades Sophia in exchange for the final gemstone.

Returning to the academy during the Solaria Festival, Serena uses the fully restored Fairy Tiara to gather the island’s magic for herself—once again leaving it up to the Sapphires to save the day.

After a year without consistent Unicorn Academy content—aside from two seasonal specials—it’s refreshing to see these characters return.

This eight-episode arc presents a more condensed timeline, unfolding over weeks rather than months. Despite this, the season manages to explore both plot and character in meaningful ways.

While previous seasons focused on large-scale threats to Unicorn Island, this installment shifts the stakes inward. The looming threat of suspension places pressure directly on the students, creating tension that nearly fractures both their mission and their friendships.

Even when facing external danger, the fear of losing their place at the academy—and their bond with their unicorns—carries just as much weight.

Ms. Primrose’s strict approach, while understandable, ultimately proves counterproductive. Rather than preventing reckless behavior, it pushes the students to act independently and erodes trust between them and the faculty.

This raises an interesting question—especially given hints that Primrose’s actions may not be entirely her own.

Up until now, Unicorn Academy has drawn clear lines between good and evil, particularly among unicorn riders. But Serena challenges that idea.

She isn’t driven by pure malice, but by years of feeling undervalued by her family. Despite her success outside the island, she still seeks their approval—something she believes she can finally achieve through the power of the Fairy Tiara.

Unlike Valentina, who internalizes expectations through people-pleasing, Serena rejects them outwardly—only to internalize that rejection over time.

Yet even at her worst, Serena doesn’t treat Valentina as an enemy. Instead, she tries to bring her along, unable to harm the one family member who has always supported her.

While Serena’s arc is the most striking, Valentina’s growth is just as important. Her development is quieter, driven by internal conflict rather than dramatic change. Though the season doesn’t fully resolve her emotional journey, it sets the stage for future growth.

Sophia’s arc, meanwhile, centers on accountability. While much of her struggle simmers beneath the surface, it ultimately leads to meaningful growth—thanks in part to her parents’ guidance.

Overall, Unicorn Academy: Secrets Revealed delivers a character-driven season that shifts focus from external threats to internal struggles. With deeper emotional stakes and evolving character dynamics, it sets up an intriguing path forward—especially with stronger ties to the Furi family and the promise of new dangers ahead.
