Before there was Pusheen or Grumpy Cat, another feline reigned supreme in the pop culture sphere: the comic-turned television and film icon Garfield.
This lazy and lasagna-loving cat has crawled into the hearts of fans of all ages over the decades and is now back and ready for more adventures in an all-new series coming to our screens on Paramount+.
Since Garfield’s debut over 47 years ago, the stories of the popular orange cat have captivated generations, reaching over 200 million daily comic readers and followers across social media. Despite his laziness, it’s proof that even after all this time, the cat remains a force to be reckoned with.
Streaming platform Paramount+ has announced a new original series, with Garfield arriving from Nickelodeon Animation Studios. Taking the lead as the voice of Garfield is none other than Lamorne Morris. While the news is still fresh, we do have some early details about the production of this forthcoming series.
Inspired by the original comic strip by Jim Davis, the series will feature the beloved orange cat at his finest, with his iconic sarcasm and hilarious lackadaisical attitude front and center.
The series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with Dave H. Johnson (Middlemost Post) and John Trabbic III (SpongeBob SquarePants, Middlemost Post) serving as executive producers. Outside of the casting for our titular character, no additional casting or characters have been announced.
There is always excitement when we get to see characters we love return for new stories. While a lot has changed since the last time we saw Garfield on screen, we are excited to see the direction this new series will take.
