2025 has been a truly magnificent year for both Sony Animation and Netflix with the global lighting-in-a-bottle film, Kpop Demon Hunters. Though we adore the tale of HUNTR/X and company. They aren’t the only stand-out films born from this partnership, as it has officially been confirmed a sequel to the 2021 film The Mitchells vs. the Machines is officially in production.
“The Mitchells vs. the Machines” follows the titular family as they drive their eldest daughter, Katie (Abbi Jacobson), across the country to film school in California. While en route, a rogue AI called PAL (Olivia Colman) commanders an army of robots to launch a worldwide rebellion against humanity. It’s up to the Mitchells — including Katie’s technophobic father, Rick (Danny McBride), overly sweet mother, Linda (Maya Rudolph) and hyperactive younger brother, Aaron (Mike Rianda) — to save the day.
Not long after the film first arrived on the global streamer was it met with great positive response and popularity. And naturally the call for more to the story of the Mitchell family.
As of now, no details have been shared regarding the specifics of the follow-up entry. But considering how on fire Sony has been, we are positive it will be amazing.
