Reading Rainbow Returns

There is no joy quite like opening a book and exploring a world yet unseen.

For many children, that joy was first unlocked through Reading Rainbow. First debuting in the 1980s and running until 2006 on PBS and PBS Kids, Reading Rainbow focused on children’s books and helped inspire a lifelong love of reading for millions of kids. Episodes often included visits to relevant locations and featured many notable guests, all designed to immerse children in the story of the week.

It quickly became a staple in daycares and elementary school classrooms, helping teachers and parents introduce reading—and a treasure trove of books—to young readers.

After years of being dormant but never forgotten, Reading Rainbow is back. Once more, we get to take a look… inside a book.

This new reboot is hosted by social media personality Mychal Threets (better known as Mychal the Librarian) and aims to increase literacy in the digital age for a new generation. As seen in the first-look trailer, the reboot will spotlight the endless joys of childhood reading, feature hands-on creative activities, and welcome appearances from notable celebrities. It’s a modern revamp of something many parents fondly remember from their own childhoods.

The new Reading Rainbow will premiere on Sony Pictures Television’s Kidzuko YouTube channel, with new episodes releasing on Saturdays.

Be sure to subscribe and join in as this new reading adventure begins.
