With Halloween in the air, we all find ourselves seeking out spooky content. From stories about witches, goblins, and ghosts, there’s sure to be a festive tale to sink your teeth into.
While we’re absolutely adoring some of the new seasonal spooks rolling out this fall, there’s another ghost-focused story we’re highly anticipating: the new Danny Phantom graphic novel.
Danny Phantom is a cult-classic animated series from Nickelodeon that debuted in 2004 following that year’s Kids’ Choice Awards. Running for three seasons, Danny Phantom followed the seemingly ordinary teenage boy Danny Fenton as he navigated high school life alongside his two best friends, Sam and Tucker. From an outsider’s perspective, Danny Fenton was nothing more than a slightly awkward and dorky kid.
But in reality, after an accident in his parents’ lab, Danny’s DNA was rearranged, turning him into a half-ghost. Now able to transform and use ghostly powers, Danny took on the role of local hero, protecting his hometown from the various villains that threatened it and its residents.
The series concluded in August 2007 with a one-hour special, Phantom Planet. Though it tied up some loose ends, the ending left the door open for future stories.
Much to the delight of fans, Danny Phantom returned in 2023 with a new graphic novel, A Glitch in Time, written and illustrated by Gabriela Epstein. A Glitch in Time directly follows the events of the animated series finale as Danny faces the consequences of his secret identity becoming public. Not only is adjusting to life without his alter ego complicated, but things intensify with the return of two of his most infamous foes—Vlad Masters and Dark Danny.
No spoilers, but A Glitch in Time was a fantastic and well-worth-the-wait follow-up to the series’ conclusion. It delivered satisfying resolutions, the joy of seeing our favorite characters in action again, and an ending that truly felt like a new beginning—setting the stage for even more exciting developments to come.
And that they are, with the next installment in the Danny Phantom graphic novel series arriving November 4: Fair Game.
After the events of Danny Phantom: A Glitch in Time, Danny Phantom is public enemy number one, and Casper High School has revamped its curriculum as they believe that ghosts are once again a danger to the town.
