Walt Disney Animation Studios has me excited for a new movie called Hexed in which we get an awkward teenage boy, are there any other kinds, and his Type A mother. They discover that the things that make him unusual and unique may be magical powers and that there is a a secret world of magic. First off, kudos to Disney for bringing us a new unique IP and we know that it is going to look amazing and we are hopeful that it will be a 2D-animated film. There are already some comparisons based on the description of the film to The Owl House, Gravity Falls, Halloweentown and Coco, all classics, but we are hopeful that this is going to be something much different. While some may find the male protagonist and mother-son relationship, parents do not under the kid theme generic, we think it is something that most of us can relate to. We wonder who the villain of the movie will be? Will it be a relative?
What we hope is that it will be a beautiful 2D animated film that really does wonderful at world building. We hope for a unique plot that is grounded in the family dynamic and that we will get a lot of marketing to the lead up and we hope that it does take pieces of the shows we have listed above and mash them into something even better. We are really excited to see what Hexed turns into and we are looking forward to any sort of Hexed toys that will come out of the movie. We want new Disney IP and we hope that this is a huge success.

In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ all-new animated film, an awkward teenage boy and his Type A mom discover that what makes him unusual might just be magical powers that will turn their lives—and a secret world of magic—upside down. Disney’s Hexed opens in theaters in November 2026. The feature is directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand, with Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones producing.
