Our Thoughts On DUCKTALES – “Last Christmas!”

(Disney Channel)
YOUNG DONALD, DELLA, DEWEY

This DuckTales Christmas holiday episode from Season 2 titled “Last Christmas!” makes me happy as we have a bunch of fun things in this episode to discuss as the writers bring us the best episode of the season so far. As you know we are huge fans of a fun story that still gives us some new information on the overall season arc as well as poking fun at nostalgia and this episode delivers on all fronts. There will be spoilers below.

DUCKTALES – “Last Christmas!” – In a nod to “Mickey’s Christmas Carol,” Scrooge avoids the pressures of the holidays by traveling back in time with a trio of fun-loving ghosts to crash history’s greatest Christmas parties instead. Meanwhile, time-lost Dewey teams up with young Donald Duck to find his mom on Christmas. This episode of “Ducktales” airs Saturday, December 1 (7:30 A.M. ET/PT) on Disney Channel.

The episode starts off on a high note as they change the DuckTales theme song into a holiday theme song and it is nothing less than perfect with its old timey feel.

We start the actual episode with Scrooge being very bah humbug to Donald, but we will soon learn his secret. We get another showing of Duckworth, which is great that we still see him in the mansion and he was not just a throwaway to make an episode work. Next we get Beasley with a throwback reference to Christmas on Bear Mountain which is the first appearance of Scrooge McDuck by Carl Barks. We love these Easter Eggs.

Dewey then finds Scrooge’s secret as he is off partying with the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future in a time travelling hop to see some of the best Christmas parties. They were looking for a different Scrooge but ended up partying with the McDuck version, which again is another funny nod to a Christmas Carol. We then find out Scrooge and Santa have some static and Dewey tags along on their time travelling adventure.

After they end up at an old Scrooge party we find out that the ghost of Christmas future and Scrooge have an issue, but we must catch back up with Dewey who is back in time with Donald and Della. This was great to see a new updated version of young Donald. We come to find out how much Donald and Della love each other and a little more insight into Della’s personality.

Scrooge will come back to save the day against the Wendigo and while Dewey can’t tell them about the future we do get a cut over to present day Della and what she is up to.

It is going to be very interesting to see how they integrate Della into the show. Will she come back only to go away again on another adventure or will she become one of the main characters? This is the fun part of the show as things don’t line up with the old DuckTales or the older comics. We are on a new adventure here.
