Brock Brenner – Exclusive Interview

We are excited to be talking to Brock Brenner about his career and some other fun things. We also get a hint about what he has coming up in the future and we look forward to seeing his career continue to grow.

BSCKids: Tell us how you got involved in acting!

Brock Brenner: When I was 3 years old I loved “playing pretend” at Pretend City Museum, in Irvine CA. I loved being different characters with different jobs. One day, I was invited to a Special Event with Wendy Burch on KTLA and I did a segment on BubbleFest at Discovery Science Center. After I saw myself on television, I knew I loved being on TV. After that I pointed to the TV and said I want to do that. My Mom enrolled me in acting classes, where I could “Play Pretend on TV.” As soon as I turned 4, I was signed by my agent Daniel Hoff Agency, and it has been non-stop since then!

BSCKids: Any funny stories you can tell us about your King’s Hawaiian commercial that was shown during the Super Bowl?

Brock Brenner: I ate 24 King’s Hawaiian rolls at the filming, even though I was supposed to spit out after each bite of food…I refused! I couldn’t waste them!!!!! I had to eat them! I even yelled during filming, “I love King’s Hawaiian Bread!” At the end of the commercial the King’s Hawaiian Bread clients that were there at the filming gave me …yummy packages of free “King’s Hawaiian Bread!” to take home…My Mom didn’t even realize that I ate half the bag on the way home.

BSCKids: Tell us how you felt after winning the Young Artist Award!

Brock Brenner: I felt shocked because there were a lot of great actors going up against me. “I was already thinking…maybe next year…it’s ok,” then I heard them call my name…I was shocked and happy that it was me.

BSCKids: What is your favorite subject at school and why?

Brock Brenner: My favorite subject is math and science because I love experimenting and knowing how things work. I also like math because it helps me find solutions to how things work together.

BSCKids: What would you say is your favorite book you have read?

Brock Brenner: My favorite book is “Benjamin Franklin and the Magic Square.” At the end of the book, I created my own magic square and double-checked Benjamin Franklin’s theory. Benjamin Franklin’s magic square really did work, every way I added really did add up to 15.

BSCKids: Where do you see yourself as a teenager in the industry?

Brock Brenner: I see myself acting, but also writing a screenplay for a movie or a TV show. I want to write real working screenplays when I am a teenager. I want to be a Director and a writer when I grow up. When I was 6 years old, I wrote a short-film screenplay called “Fear of Night,” it is registered and copyrighted.

BSCKids: If you could guest star on one show, which one would it be and why?

Brock Brenner: I would like to guest star on “Raven’s Home,” I love that show. Every character is so funny.

Extraordinarily talented, and quickly taking Hollywood by storm at only 7 years old, Brock Brenner will soon lead the pack for child actors in today’s bustling Hollywood scene. The recent Young Artist Award winner, Brock, is best known for his hilarious and adorable appearance in the Super Bowl LI commercial for King’s Hawaiian (where he actually ate over a dozen rolls on set) and has been stealing the screen as a guest star in several hit TV series including FOX’s “New Girl,” CBS’s “Superior Donuts” and ABC’s “The Goldbergs” following his first major role as the lone survivor in the indie horror film THE RAKING. Brock also recently lent his infectious smile to the perfume campaign for Eva Mendes’ fragrance, Avon Eve Duet as well as the music video for Indie Rock group, Glass Animals, for their hit single, “Youth”.

BSCKids: Who do you believe has taught you the most about acting?

Brock Brenner: Every single one of my Acting Coaches have taught me something that has helped me: Alecs Vildosola, Scott Wissner, Adam Tait, Joey Paul Jensen, and Cynthia Bain. My Mom has also taught me a lot because her and I are a team. We have been learning everything about the acting world together.

BSCKids: We hear that you are a coder, what is one of the proudest pieces of software you have programmed?

Brock Brenner: I coded my own “Cosmo,” the Robot when I was at MIT camp this summer. I coded commands for movement and voice. This type of coding is part of learning Artificial Intelligence with robotics. Through experimenting and coding on my own, I was able to create shorter codes for my robot’s movements.

BSCKids: What is your favorite video game right now and your favorite video game of all time?

Brock Brenner: My favorite video game right now is “Rayman Legends,” I love that game! Since I am only allowed to play video games on the weekend, it’s the first game I play. My favorite video game of all time is “Mario Kart 8,” I play it with my sisters and my sister’s fiancée, Ross. My motivation is to win against Ross because he is so good.

BSCKids: How supportive of your career are your siblings?

Brock Brenner: My sisters and all of their friends are very supportive. They always watch my shows and are excited about any new commercials that I am on.

BSCKids: Where can we find you on social media?

Brock Brenner: I am on Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. My handle for everything is @BrockBrenner or /BrockBrenner

BSCKids: What do you have coming up in the future that you can tell us about?

In the movie I am the lead character Anastasia’s young son “Ivanov.” I also have a national Chick-Fil-A commercial and a worldwide commercial with Eva Mendes for Eve Discovery Parfum by Avon.
