LOUIE, DEWEY, DUCKWORTH, HUEY, SCROOGE
This article will contain spoilers for episode 111, “McMystery at McDuck McManor!,” which aired on 5/25/2018 so be prepared. While this episode was again shown out of order, it helped us understand what happened to Duckworth in this new version of DuckTales and what that means for the show.
DUCKTALES – “McMystery at McDuck McManor!” – When Scrooge unexpectedly disappears during his birthday party, Huey, Dewey and Louie find themselves hosting a mystery party where everyone is a suspect.
Duckworth is dead…yup dead…in this episode we get this fact at the beginning of the episode as the boys talk about planning the party for Scrooge. It is mentioned that Duckworth was the best party planner and after he passed Scrooge is not so interesting in parties.
Here is how it all goes down though, Black Arts Beagle is summoning a demon to try to make Scrooge’s life miserable, but instead he summons the spirit of Duckworth, but we don’t know that till the end. Now this makes some sense to me, maybe Duckworth died in the mansion, so he would be the spirit that would be summoned. He ends up saving the day at the end of the day, but then it seems like he is going to stick around. Yes, it looks like DuckTales is going to have a new ghost that is around all the time, but we don’t know if this is really the case, since we haven’t seen him in the later episodes that have been aired out of order.
Here is the thing though, Duckworth is a bit more than a regular ghost, he was able to interact directly with the kids, even picking one of them up at the end of the episode. If he can interact with the regular world and that is the case he would be like a superhero in the DuckTales universe. Even though they ended the episode without sending Duckworth back to the abyss, we just can’t see him sticking around unless he is specifically trapped in the mansion. If that was the case then we would be ok with it. Kind of like the Harry Potter Portraits type of character, that would be fine.
It seems like they are really trying to let us know what happened to a lot of the characters from the original show and that is great, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out like the fans want. First we had Darkwing Duck on the show, in a way that just didn’t make us happy. We are excited to see what to make of this picture as well where we may even get more Disney show characters coming to the show, and hopefully in a way that makes us all happy.
