Knight Squad on Nickelodeon had its first episode premiere right after Blurt on Monday and now we wait until Saturday to see the start of the season on February 24th. After finishing up the fabulous Blurt movie we decided to stick around and see what it was about. Now that we have see an episode we want to talk about all things that we enjoyed and didn’t enjoy about the episode and take a guess on if the series is going to be something popular.
The cast of Knight Squad is made up of some alum of other Nick shows: Owen Joyner played Crispo Powers on 100 Things to Do Before High School, Lilimar as Sophie Delarosa from Bella and the Bulldogs, Daniella Perkins as Cheyanne on The Thundermans. So you already have some Nickelodeon network star power on board. Add that to Amarr M. Wooten from American Housewife and Liv and Maddie, Lexi DiBenedetto who won the 2014 Young Artist Award for Best Young Actress, and Savannah May who has done some work on Bizaardvark as Jade, and you are hitting it out of the park talent wise.
For the setting we get this interesting mix of fantasy setting, but with all of today’s pop culture references. To be honest this is a weird feeling mix and we are not really sure how it will work out just yet. Being only one episode we do not want to pass too much judgement. The special effects are what you would expect of a kids television show that does not have a huge movie budget, but overall we thought they were well done for what it is.
The overall story (Arc, pun intended) is great though as we have two secrets going on with Arc sneaking into knight school and the Princess who is using her magic ring to stay in knight school as Ciara. There is also a bit of a conflict here between Arc and the Princess when she finds out how Arc paid to get into knight school.
Get ready for Nickelodeon’s brand new epic comedy Knight Squad! Arc (Owen Joyner) and Ciara (Daniella Perkins) both have dreams of becoming knights and fears of having their secrets exposed. With their friends on the Phoenix Squad, they’ll battle tough enemies, take on killer quests, and compete to become top squad. This is not your average knight-ogre-warlock-troll-princess situation. Catch the premiere of Knight Squad, February 24th on Nick!
We just love all of the different characters from Arc and Ciara to some of the other squads in night school that include Sage and Buttercup, who we find super funny. Overall the characters are funny and enjoyable. The other thing that was fun while watching the show was all of the use of puns for objects in the world. Think nose fairies to club soda and they make you giggle a bit.
They also use a lot of the fantasy races you would expect, like Ogres, Giants and Goblins, so there will be a lot of different situations for the Phoenix Squad to resolve.
You can watch episode two at its regular time tomorrow “A Knight at the Roxbury,” as well as watch the trailer video below.
We are reserving judgement until we see a few more episodes, but we can tell you that we had fun watching the first episode and look forward to seeing what the Knight Squad has in store for us.
Ciara’s competitiveness gets the best of her when she puts winning a prestigious school tournament ahead of her new friendship with Arc.
