Andi Mack from Disney Channel is Coming

Andi Mack has me intrigued, excited, and nervous all at the same time, it is going to be a show of “self-discovery” for Andi Mack who is played by Peyton Elizabeth Lee and that seems very Judy Blume without have watching an episode yet. Andi’s sister Bex Mack is going to be played by Lilan Bowden and from what we have seen of her, it is going to be an interesting dynamic. We are told that Andi Mack is an artistic tween that is trying to figure out where she fits in with all parts of her life, friends, and family.

Disney Channel’s “Andi Mack,” a single-camera series about a journey of self-discovery for a 13-year-old girl who finds herself questioning everything she’s ever known after her older sister returns home unexpectedly. Created and executive produced by Terri Minsky (of Disney Channel’s hit series “Lizzie McGuire”), the series stars Peyton Elizabeth Lee in the title role and is scheduled for a 2017 premiere

A lot of great people behind the camera are attached to this production including Michelle Manning (Disney Channel’s “Adventures in Babysitting,” “Teen Beach 2,” “The Breakfast Club”) along with executive producer Terri Minsky (of Disney Channel’s hit series “Lizzie McGuire”), which I can understand the vib a bit more as Lizzie was a pretty great show about a girl growing up. Phil Baker from “Good Luck Charlie” is co-executive producer as well. This show seems a bit less funny, a bit more real, and I don’t know why, but a bit darker, in a good way, I think. Disney is going to have a lot of opportunity to really help kids with this show and let us all hope that it is not a wasted opportunity. This also looks to be something that the whole family might be able to watch and open up some dialog, we are going off of press releases, trailers, promos and pictures so once we get to actually watch a full episode we will know more.

The teaser video below asks more questions than it answers, but what is Bex’s news “that might just change everything?” This is where I wonder if the show is going to be super focused on Andi Mack or will it be more about her interactions with the world (and her sister) and how that impacts her. Either way this is going to be something a bit different, at least it feels that way from all of the trailers, than we have seen on Disney Channel. I am not sold yet, but being excited is a great feeling about a show that might be a little too real for the old Disney Channel we knew, and might be instrumental in changing our perceptions of what you might see on Disney Channel.

Update: Looks Like Disney removed the video for the time being
