Rachel Crow – Exclusive Interview – Home Adventures with Tip & Oh
Rachel Crow is starring as Gratuity “Tip” Tucci in DreamWorks Animation’s exciting new Netflix original series HOME ADVENTURES WITH TIP & OH (premiered July 29). She brings great vitality and charm to her portrayal of the brave, strong and determined young Tip, serving as a positive example for young girls on air as well as in her real life.

Can you tell us a little bit about your character on Home Adventures with Tip & Oh?
My character is super sweet, her name is Tip, she is just a ball of fire! She’s full of life, she’s empowered, she doesn’t take no for an answer, she’s just wild and I love voicing her! I think she is such a dynamic and cool character that little girls everywhere are going to look up to her.
Did you get to watch Home before you worked on this show?
Of course! I was a huge fan of the movie so to be able to be Tip now is insane!
Since you sing on the opening titles, tell us a little bit about how you co-wrote that song? What inspiration did you have for that piece.
Well it was super cool to bring my side of the story into the song. I co-wrote it with Alex Geringas, who works on all of the music for the show. He is just so incredible and the collaboration was really amazing. We sort of brought elements from each of our personalities into it – he’s so fun-loving and full of life, then you have me coming in, who is actually “Tip,” and can sort of write it from her point of view, which was really, really fun for me and a different experience that I didn’t think I would able to put through to it, but it was such an awesome and cool thing.
After being on X Factor, how did you decide you wanted to do some voice acting? Did X Factor open some new doors for you?
X Factor got me started and launched me into my career, I’ve had a blast doing all of the things that I love and getting to try new things, like voice over work was a new thing for me! I did Rio 2 and didn’t think that I was actually going to be the voice of a character in a show, let alone Tip! So it’s definitely been cool. I also love doing music and I’m working on my album right now. I’ve been doing a lot since then – a lot has happened since I was 13!
What is the funniest “fail” you have had while voice acting?
Oh my gosh, there are so many fails doing voice acting that I can’t even pick just one! There are funny lines that I have definitely flubbed, or maybe when I’m talking I’ll have to cough or something and sound really weird. There are so many fails that happen in the voice over world I don’t even know how I’d pick one!
What were some of your favorite cartoons while growing up?
Of course I loved Spongebob, and it’s really funny because Tom Kenny (who is Spongebob) comes on and does voices for our show sometimes so I definitely fangirled a little bit when he came! So definitely Spongebob, Tom & Jerry is another one, and I loved The Proud Family – that was my jam! Loved it! The Fairly Oddparents… I mean those are just a few, I loved cartoons! I watched cartoons all the time I can’t even pick them all.
How do you continue to work on being a positive example for young girls?
I think I’m just completely comfortable with being myself, which I think is really important for younger girls to know too. Be confident in who you are, just be unapologetically you. It’s taken me a long time to sort of figure that out and I’m still trying to figure out life, I’m always growing, I’m only 18. I think just always staying true to who you want to be and being who you are is really important.
Tell us a little bit about what other projects you are working on.
I’m working on a movie right now, I’m currently filming it and it should be out next year! I’m super pumped about it. It’s called Deidra & Laney Rob A Train and I play Laney. It’s been something really special for me. I’ve really grown on the set and gotten to learn a lot so I can’t wait for people to see it! I’m working on my album and that’s been incredible for me to put by heart and soul into this project. I’m so excited for it to come out and for people to hear my music and really understand who I am and I hope it really comes across.

Why should everyone tune in to HOME ADVENTURES WITH TIP & OH?
I think everybody should tune in to DreamWorks Home Adventures With Tip & Oh because it is such a great show for any member of the family, no matter how old you are I think you’ll love it and laugh about it because it’s so funny and real! It’s so realistic and I think each person will be able to identify with each character in a different way. You should watch it because Tip is fun and fearless and Oh is adorable and has no idea what is going on half the time so it’s a really fun combination. I love the show and I’m so happy to be a part of it. I will definitely be binge-watching in my room as much as I can, you should too!
