Yo, What’s App-ening? — Apps For Your Bored Moments

Hey, what’s h-app-ening, everybody! Ha, see what I did there? Okay, bad joke on my end. Forgive that.

Seriously though, what’s happening on your end of this virtual world today? You just chilling on the computer before heading out? Staying all day indoors? Perhaps you’re just getting home from work and need to nap before dinner? Or are you going to work? Maybe some homework getting done?

Well, wherever the day takes you, I’m certain most of you will have at least one thing by your side at all times: an iPad, android or cell phone. I’m right, aren’t I? Older kids, teenagers and even adults are known to be carrying such devices on their person everyday. Especially me. It’s a piece of technology that would make me cry if it wasn’t in my sight.

Ever since these small devices were created, people have been depending on their technology. Tablets and cell phones (if the right models) help us to shape what’s happening in our daily lives: scheduling appointments, video chats, instant messages, email, internet and more. The variety of programs installed in the tech such as pictures, videos, text messages, friendly calls and alarms have made life a bit simpler, too. It’s almost like cameras, landlines, calendars, pens or alarm clocks have been smashed and recycled into these awesome technology pieces.

Of course, even with all these amazing programs pre-installed in tablets and phones once we get them are pretty cool, they don’t help alleviate a little thing called ‘boredom’ very well. Yeah, go ahead and take goofy selfies or group video chat with your posse from school. It doesn’t mean you don’t want a little more fun installed. So, what better way to help counteract that continuing boredom than by heading into the Google Play store and downloading some fun apps!

If you don’t know what ‘apps’ are, they’re simply programs people can download and run on tablets, androids, iPhones, etc. Millions of apps are downloaded each and every day by users for different reasons. Some could be helpful to businesses or simply used for personal pleasure. Others are rated by their entertainment value. I mean, do you know how many different kinds are out there? There’s games, puzzles, RPGS, books, music, social, educational, television, movies, prank and some seriously useless ones. I’m sure you app lovers know what kinds I’m talking about. They’re the ones where people ask, “Seriously. Why did you make that? It makes NO sense.” Kinda like the ‘Staples’ button.

Anyways, I’m sure each of you have your own favorite kind of apps to keep you occupied during bored periods or just to have some fun. Why don’t you check out my favorites below (perhaps one is your fave, too):

  • Pandora
    • It’s music, people! I got to have my music whenever I’m cleaning! If I don’t, I go at a snail’s pace when I want everything done quick! So, after I downloaded Pandora, I was thrilled. Who else headbangs while washing dishes? Let’s see a show of hands!
  • Brain It On!
    • What better way to keep my mind sharp and focused than playing this app! It has different levels where you need to solve their problems easy but quickly. I always aim for three stars…at least until my brain starts hurting and I need to take a break. But it’s a good way to work out your mind.
  • Neko Atsume
    • Calling all kitty lovers! If you love cats, then this is an app for you! In this app, you can collect cats of all sorts from common breeds to rare ones. You can play with them, feed them, groom them, etc. Collect all the kitties you want. As a bonus, they’re so cute!
  • Angry Birds
    • Making round birdies fly or pummel through structures is pretty fun. This is a game I play when I want some stress relief. Not only can I throw something figuratively, but I also get a great laugh watching these little birdies flying.
  • Minecraft
    • If you enjoy the video game, then you’ll enjoy the portable pocket version you can download for your phone. Still build and chat with others around the world who enjoy it as well.
  • Otome
    • These games are RPG games. It’s like reading chapters of a story except you also get visual confirmation of the characters. You can win different things every day logging in, buy some cool gear for you or another character and maybe find a little “romance”. There are so many different kinds out there, you can pretty much find one for any of your interests. Though I will say this, these games are mostly recommended for those at least 13 and up.
  • MediBang Paint
    • Become a digital artist. Download this app and you can draw, color, fill-in and do whatever coloring you wish on this app. I love drawing, so there was no doubt I wouldn’t have this app on my own phone.
  • Fairy Kingdom: World of Magic
    • Of course I can’t keep all my faves on just simple games, right? I play this game which is an MMORPG. I interact with others, build my kingdom, wear some cool gear and just plain have fun. Never thought I’d be into girly things like this game, but it pulled me in.
  • Cartoon Network/Disney
    • When I’m done for the day and wish to relax (with no game), I tune myself into one of these apps for Cartoon Network or Disney. I can watch shows, enter sweeps, maybe play a game (if I feel up to it). I always like to know what still happens with my favorite networks.

So, what about you? Tell us your favorite apps to chill out on!
