“Dance Camp” is one of the anticipated films premiering on the new service YouTube Red and the multi-talented Jordyn Jones is showing everyone what she’s got in one of the starring roles. The 15 year old dancer, singer, actor, and model has the entertainment industry in her cross-hairs.
Jordyn began dancing at a very young age, never giving up on something she knew she loved and had a talent for. Her love for dancing eventually evolved into singing and acting as well as modeling. She explained,
I started dancing as soon as I could walk… I just know I had fun with it because I could have taken just one class and been done with it. But I have been doing it for a long time and I have traveled THE WORLD for dance. I’ve gone anywhere from Idaho to London. From dancing it became rapping and from rapping it became singing and that became acting and that led to modeling. I’m trying to do it all right now.
When it came time to audition for “Dance Camp.” Jordyn was more than prepared. As a singer, dancer, and actor, she was made for the movie. However, as it turns out she would originally audition for a smaller part only for the people behind the movie to offer her a main role. She said,
I wasn’t initially supposed to be a huge character in it, but they called me back the next day and said they were writing me a part, totally written just for me and they want me in the movie and they want me to be a main character in the movie.
On “Dance Camp” she plays Yolo, the captain of the youngest dance squad in the film. Her character is a very ambitious and intense dancer with skills she isn’t afraid to show off.
My character is a diva and she doesn’t like losing. She competes and wants to win. When she loses she gets very mad and throws tantrums and thinks the whole world is coming to an end.
In order to get into character for the role, Jordyn says. “You just gotta turn it on and when that camera comes on you have to transform yourself and it was hard at first but easier the more I do it.” Yet, despite what seems like two different people that is Jordyn and her character, she explains they actually share some similarities.
I would say that I am very competitive because if I wasn’t competitive in this industry I wouldn’t be anywhere where I was. Also I sing and dance and act!
Things were just as fun behind the camera as they were in front of the camera. According to Jordyn, the cast spent time bonding, becoming best friends, and dancing!
We had so much fun. We would be jamming out to music, going to school (which is not that fun haha) even just shooting sometimes would be so fun, people making jokes and I miss it SO much… when the behind the scenes camera would be on us they would ask us to break out into a dance scene and we would have so much fun.
She also went on to say that when she first arrived on set and met the main cast members, she felt incredibly welcomed.
They took me in like we had been friends forever. Now we are friends and we talk all the time. I love them all so much.
Now that “Dance Camp” is done filming, Jordyn is keeping herself incredibly busy. She is working on three music videos while traveling and continuing acting and modeling. She isn’t slowing down while continuing her career. She barely has time to turn on her television!
I never turn on my TV! The only time I did was when I moved into this apartment and it was the Superbowl. I do watch on Netflix or YouTube Red now.
But when it comes down to it, she says people should watch “Dance Camp” because “it is for all ages! It really is. And it is so funny. It made me laugh just reading the script. Then it came to life and it was even better. I think it is really relatable and kids these days love that so it is going to be really popular I hope.”
