Disney Releases New ‘Zootopia’ Trailer Featuring Sloths

Just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday, Disney released a new trailer from its upcoming animated movie Zootopia.

Last month, we got to see a teaser poster as well as a teaser trailer for the film. Set in a metropolis where animals of all shapes and sizes coexist and live side by side with different habitat neighborhoods, it is a world extremely similar to that of our world.

In the new trailer, the dreadful reputation of the DMV comes to life even in the world of animals.

Rabbit police officer Judy Hopps, voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin, and her scam-artist partner, fox Nick Wilde, voiced by Jason Bateman, go to the DMV – Department of Mammal Vehicles – to run a license plate number in effort to solve a case that they are running out of time on.

The fox plays cool throughout the entire visit and even seems to be enjoying the frustration of the rabbit. While Officer Hopps is itching to get the information she needs and get out of there, fox Wilde makes it worse for her.

Out of all the animals that could work at the DMV, it had to be sloths – one of the slowest creatures. It is sloth central! Not only does one sloth work there but there is a sloth at every counter! Fox Wilde accompanies Office Hopps to the DMV and recommends one sloth in particular by the name of Flash, voiced by Raymond Persi. There is a lot of irony in the sloth’s name alone. “Flash” is a term one can associate with light and its super speed. Meanwhile, it is the opposite. For those who may have never been to the DMV, it is also interesting to see how the sloths slightly resemble the type of people that work there too!

The trailer is entirely dedicated to the one joke of the DMV being slow. Although it is excruciating and painful to watch, I couldn’t help but laugh the entire time. As Officer Hopps grows more and more impatient, fox Wilde continues to probe at her nerves by asking Flash if he wants to hear a joke. This not only completely distracts him from his work but takes him off track to talk to a fellow sloth co-worker.

At only about two minutes, the trailer seems to feel like an eternity as we wait for the sloth to acknowledge the words being said to him. I can feel the poor bunny’s pain.

Directed by Bryon Howard and Rich Moore, Zootopia is set to hit theaters on March 4, 2016. In the meantime, be sure to check out the new trailer in the video below!
