Ready For a 90s Throwback?

2015 has been the year of returns.

How many times have I said that, I have lost count. Between reboots of classic tales revamped for a new era, to additions of already existing brands to basic returns, we have seen a lot of reuniting as of late. There really is something for everyone as old friends since once more across our screens and recapture our hearts.

Not all that long ago, maybe a week or two to be much more specific, I did an article about a rather strange DVD release of some older Nick titles known as Out of the Vault Collections.  A collection that featured five popular and classic series from the very early days of the network. It really is somewhat ironic.

Over the years Nick has done something that not all of other companies have done; released a good majority of their series on home video platforms. In most cases you can find a series up on online stores like iTunes, or Amazon or go with the smaller, more budget friendly themed release sets.  Even though digital is nice and space saving it is not always ideal. Thanks to a couple partnerships quite a few off the classic series have received full series DVD box-set style releases.

Despite being great and having a small slice of memories in your hand, there is something to be said about being able to just turn on your television and be able to watch a series live as it broadcasts. Something that Nick once again took note to and started a special block on TeenNick known as The 90s Are All That about four years ago. A block that runs from midnight till four in the morning with an array of different series featuring that of Rugrats, Hey Arnold, CatDog and Rocket Power currently.

As delighted fans are there has been complaints about the programing line-up lacking diversity and the time slots are not the greatest as late night television is far from practical when you are in school or working the next day and DVRing is the best case. A common and fair enough argument. With all the returns it is no surprise that there is a desire for even more old faces to appear again.

And that they are.

Nick has been teasing a new project and for a few days now hype has been mounting as we disover a new chapter is about to be set off for the network known as The Splat.

At first what was lead to believe was The 90s Are All That revamped has now been confirmed by that of MTV News to be a brand-new channel completely of old beloved series. In a teaser video posted on official The Splat accounts features a several series Aaahhh!!! Real Monsters, Angery Beavers, Rocko’s Modern Life, Wild Thornberrys and more appear to be some of what fans can expect to see on the new channel.

As of now the only real thing confirmed that this is very much so happening, the fans who have been asking for a full channel with old favorites are getting their wish granted. This is no crazy April Fools styled joke or tease, but reality. With the amount of excitement for this it will be something that is followed closely with great enthusiasm as more details come to light and the channel does finally make its grand entrance into the homes of viewers.

There are some channels that do primary center themselves around older series that have been off the air for some time, this is a rather bold and surprising move on Nick’s end. Yet not one without any demand. With as many reboots as we have it is nice to just go and watch the classics if it is nothing more than a walk down memory lane.

Join the conversation: Are you ready for The Splat? What series are you most looking forward to reliving, or watching for the first time?
