Into the Woods is unique in that it takes several of the fairy tales that most of grew up with and intertwines them into magical tale. The movie takes each tale, “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Cinderella”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Rapunzel” and at the center is a childless couple who sets out to end a curse placed on them by a vengeful witch that affects all the characters in each fairytale.
The film immediately starts off with a framing device, a narrator telling us the story. It is very much like a parent reading a bedtime story. It’s comforting and enticing and wonderful all at the same time. The narration continues through the movie but only in-between scenes leaving the rest of the movie to actually function as it is supposed to.
The voice talent is utterly amazing in this movie. Every actor is incredibly talented. If anything, you should watch this movie for Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick (she’s a treasure!), Emily Blunt, James Corden, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, Lilla Crawford, Daniel Huttlestone, MacKenzie Mauzy, Billy Magnussen. It is rare to find so much talent in one movie and who ever did casting made some magnificent decisions.
The chemistry between Emily Blunt and James Corden is delightful. They seem like a real life married couple whose bickering who comes from two people who deeply love and care about each other and are working towards the same goals in life. But by the end of the movie the characters are even more in love after everything they have been through and the actors so magically portray it. Though honestly, all the actors have amazing chemistry together.
Into The Woods is a great film and one you can watch with family and friends. It is heartwarming, endearing, and incredibly charming. I recommend buying this movie and adding it to your collection immediately!
The DVD and Blu-ray collection has great special features that makes it even better of a buy.
