The Fooo Conspiracy Talk Music, The US, and Justin Bieber – Interview

BSCkids recently got the chance to chat with the group The Fooo Conspiracy, a fast rising UK boy band taking the world by storm. The group consists of Oscar “O.G.” Molander, Oscar Enestad, Omar Rudberg and Felix Sandman.

Their beginnings as a band trace back to YouTube (only 1 year ago), where they posted videos of their guerilla-style performances on the streets of Stockholm. These videos quickly swept the internet, earning the group upwards of 2 million views across some of their first videos. The fast-growing fandom and local appeal led to the band opening for Justin Bieber’s 2013 Believe Tour’s three Swedish dates at the monstrous Ericsson Globe Arena (formerly Stockholm Globe), which holds over 13,000 people!

BSCKids: The Fooo Conspiracy

How long have you been working together?

We have been together as a band for just two years! We put out our first video “Kangaroos” a year and a half ago!

Where does your name, The Fooo Conspiracy, come from?

We started as The FOOO, which is all of our initials: Felix, OG, Omar, and Oscar. Then after we started doing more and more street performances, more and more fans were coming to see us and we started to get a lot of attention from the media. They were very curious about our relationship with our fans because they’ve never seen anything like it with a local band. The Swedish media didn’t understand it, so they kept calling it a “conspiracy theory”. We always want to involve our fans in everything we do, so after we won our Swedish Grammy for Innovator of the Year, we decided to add “Conspiracy” to our band name so we could include our fans!

Where do you draw some of your musical inspiration from?

We draw our inspiration from all genres and so many different musicians. Everything from Justin Timberlake and Nick Jonas, to K POP and Ed Sheeran. We’re all over the place!

What do you think makes sets you apart from other groups?

We draw a lot of inspiration from street culture. We started performing on the streets, so we mix elements from that style into our choreography and sound. We also do parkour, which is really different and makes our performances stand out! We always want to bring our fans a fun show, and something that they will really remember.

How do you create your complex choreography moves?

We choreograph all of our routines! It starts in the studio where we play the song and all freestyle to it. We’ll watch each other, and if we see a move that we like we start building the routine around that. It’s fun because we’re all involved in putting it together. We always want to think about the fans and what they will like, and what will look awesome on stage!

What was the experience like when you opened for Justin Bieber?

It was actually our first gig as a band! We opened three nights in a row in Stockholm to three sold out crowds! It was definitely a great way to start! Before going on stage, we were very nervous, but once we started, it was like an out-of-body experience. The energy in the room was amazing and the fans were going crazy! When we got off the stage we passed out! It was such a rush!

How did it feel to win Innovator of the Year award?

Winning a Swedish Grammy for “Innovator of the Year” was insane! We never expected it and were so happy to win that specific award, because we try to be innovative in everything we do and always challenge ourselves.

What has been your favorite part of being here (in the US) so far?

Apart from working with really amazing people here and recording new material, we really enjoy the sun in LA! It’s been nice to be here and to experience a fall so unlike the one in Sweden, where it’s actually pretty cold right now!

Are there any groups or singers you would love to work with on a single?

Justin Timberlake is such an inspiration for us, so collaborating with him would be a dream come true.

When can fans expect a full length album to release?

We are hoping to release our first full-length album in the states in early 2015! Make sure to follow us and stay tuned! But for now, we have our debut EP out!
