Hickies are a great little product that transforms your shoes or sneakers with laces into something much more comfortable that slips right on. You take out your traditional laces and replace them with this elastic system that holds your shoe together. A very impressive idea that has held up well in our household.
We decided to test out Hickies on our boys old sneakers that had worn out laces and they performed perfect. You see these pieces of elastic rubber do a great job at expanding far enough to fit their feet in the shoe and at the same time snug enough when they go back to their original form to make the shoe comfortable. The product can be summed up by my older son who is 9 years old:
They feel comfortable, I don’t trip over my laces and they don’t bother my legs like when my laces touch them.
Another plus is that both of my sons just loved the way that they looked. When they are trying to run out the door (or are just plain being a bit crabby) and do not want to take the time to lace up a shoe, Hickies to the rescue and they slip on those other sneakers and away we go. A few things to remember include the fact they will only work on shoes that have eyelets, and we did have a pair of sneakers that did not. While they seem very strong and sturdy, it may be a good idea to keep an extra band or two in the car in case of any issues, just like you might with a pair of laces that could split. The nice part is that Hickies provides you “extra” bands, which we are keeping around for such an occasion.
The accessory factor can not be stressed enough, because of all the different colors, you can design a really neat looking shoe by mixing and matching all different colors of bands. As a parent it was also a breeze to switch over the shoe to use the bands and I consider this product another winner in our house hold. So don’t throw those older shoes away (as long as they fit and have good soles), but turn them into a nice slip on shoe. Plus you don’t have to deal with knots anymore!
